my mrs 90 no drive !!!!!!!!!
Hello to all.....just bought my wife her first defender 2010 hardtop blue white roof. Had it just under a month and she loves it !!!! had a pajero few years back and that did everything very well but she prefers defender. Driving back on friday had a couple of clonks from drive just thought it was bit of backlash. Stop at some lights under m25 bang no drive, managed to get in a layby. No drive transfer box noisy, joined AA £350 and 6 hours later landy back on drive. It seems from posts 2010 defenders prone to link from gearbox to transfer box fails, has a warantee so fingers crossed be back on road soon. What with this and totally rusted solid windscreen wiper shafts my wives defender journy has been a little bumpy...... will let you know the outcome....... Very Happy

Yep, common problem although quite straight forward to repair, if your handy with the spanners!
Done one a few weeks ago, mine is next!!
Good luck in getting it sorted Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Is it a tdci? Or td5,300tdi?
Just asking as all the parts for tdci amount to around £150 so make sure you have been quoted for correct parts.
But if it's td5 might just be input shaft?
Tdci have a different problem/set up, intermediate coupling shaft which fails! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

2.4 2010
its a 2010 2.4 tdci i think...found part numbers and found bits on ebay...im not paying for parts or labour just the transport. Looked at job and if it wasnt under warrantee would do it me self....its all kinda guesswork till they pull it apart, there did seem to be a small amount of rust at the bottom of the tunnell between gear box and transfer box. there was a small hole kinda semi circle (drain hole ? ) and rust seemed to be coming from there...Maybe thats cause landrover dont greace them..

Don't recall any holes in that section of the box, but sounds like someone's been there before!
Maybe trying to spray some lube inside?
Only way to lube it is to pull it apart, maybe water has entered the hole and rusted the splined shaft?
Would be interesting to see it once it's out! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

If you look back in the puma section on here you will find the post "another one with worn splines"
That was the one I done a few weeks ago, just so you know what sort of job it is,

Grease nipples are the way to go!! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

yes there is a small cut out in one end of the casing between main box and t/box as standard , only small about 3 - 4mm wide and about 8 -10mm long , just a small drain hole if i remember right its in gearbox end on the mating surface

The high/low lever hasn't dropped into neutral has it? Sorry if it's a daft question.
