Fatman,
When you say options for backyard mechanics,am i correct in saying you would like a way to update you calibration as a DIY exercise. If this is the case would you be having your own laptop or are you looking for a standalone unit. Regards DieselYoda |

If they're expecting to have a result by February March 2015 for the 2.4 I doubt they'll have a result for the 2.2 by May?
If it's a 'recognised Land Rover issue and fix' there should be no reason whilst it wouldn't be free provided by your dealership on perhaps some kind of recall free-gratis irrespective of warranty expiry! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Maybe a new topic should opened or new-more sophsisticated options added here ==>> http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic10829.html I was considering something like FoCOM or FORScan software-i think none of these cover 2.4 tdci-visteon ecu- combined with an ELM interface(327?) an a laptop. I already have a Nanocom which covers many diagnostics and settings functions and hopefully will be upgraded to do pump learn etc and read-write calibration files but till then i was looking for something already available for the amatures like us Thanks. |

I recently did the LR Experience at Eastnor and mentioned rev hang and the instructor looked baffled. He asked me to show him and I couldn't replicate it in their 63 plate 110 for love nor money. When I got into my 90 to go home, I instantly experienced the phenomenon.
I popped into the supplying dealer, MJ Fews, and discussed this with their service manager who said they would have a good look for any faults. Nearly an hour later the keys are back in my hand with an explanation..... "It is doing what it should be doing, there are no faults being reported and it drives how it should drive". I asked what it should be doing and he said it holds the revs to smooth the gear change, limit transmission shunting and keep the emissions down. Don't ask me to explain - I am merely repeating the explanation. I asked about the clutch switch on the master cylinder and whether this might be misbehaving and he said no as this feeds into the rev-hang input. He said that by disabling it, the rev-hang characteristics may change (not sure if he meant for the better or worse) but that I would lose the anti-stall function and risk clutch burn-out if I was a little insensitive as the full torque would be delivered no matter the position of the clutch. I resigned myself to it being how it was meant to be and to live with it. I did question how the LRE Rovers seemed to not have this and he just shrugged his shoulders....... |

He was giving it good old thrashing, I've seen that thread before.
My thoughts are your defender has a fault and everyone will go mine dosent do that. My new one is running sweet as a nut but the 12 plate one was a bit judder box. Coming into the yard it would kangaroo. New one no problems at all. |

No problems with my new new either, in fact the gearchange and response is superior to my last 2.4. That said a good few of the 2.2's I dove in the past were dire which is why I hung onto the 2.4 longer than usual. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. Same problem as everyone else- found that taking the ' free play' out of the accelerator made a huge difference. I expect some one will know how to achieve this electronically??

My Defender is currently at the dealership with a few issues and they have loaned me a brand new 110 with only 9 miles on the clock and this does not kangaroo/judder the throttle pedal seems to be less responsive when you are slightly on the gas where mine is ever so sensitive which I feel contributes to the issue.
My 6 month old Defender (now on 6000 miles) in to to have leaks sorted - passenger side I think the door seal is the culprit - driver side the seal to the underside of the windscreen surround needs replacing Whilst in there - they are fitting genuine RAI (needed for me as I spend a lot of time on dirt tracks, constructing them for wind farms) - I have asked them to look at the juddering in second gear (wont hold my breath) but I may push to have the throttle peddle sensor replaced to see if this improves things |
