Eutek,

Mine was exactly as yours....even had the large Land Rover decals emblazoned with TH Whites over the bonnet, sides, rear, basically anywhere advertising could be placed. Mine was an on-road demonstrator for the dealer.
Have a word with those you bought it off...they have nowt to lose or gain by telling porkies, you're happy with it and it is just idle curiosity! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Just another thought....I was chatting to a Mercedes salesman recently (not buying one - I was there with work!), and he said customers were normally quite surprised when he informed them that they were wrong when they assumed by being a 'cash buyer' they would get a better deal. He was saying, that even in todays climate, the interest rates that he could offer on finance, and the deal he could do on the asking price if finance were taken, would save quite a chunk of money overall. As a cash buyer, there was nowhere he could 'make-up' the difference (unless the buyer paid full-whack for extra's) if he discounted. Added to that, your 'lump' of money can sit in your own account, there to be used elsewhere, should you need it.

BUT - he did point out, that this works only if you change your car ever 3-4 years, not if you buy it to keep it for ever more. He essentially said, that to defer an amount meant that you would never actually pay that amount, only interest on it, using the 'GFV' each time as the next deposit.

Maybe just something else to think about Question Mark

I had two loan FL2's for a month, one auto and a manual.

All I can say is that they are good cars, emphasis on car Laughing

If you WANT (or NEED) a Defender then a Freelander (or any other LR) is just nothing in comparison. IF you want something with a LR badge and are used to normal cars, then you will like the Freelander2.

I've had a Freelander2 auto for 1-week and was disappointed. Just did not like the box (which seeing as I hate anything automatic, well other than Swiss time pieces) was not surprising.

I have also had a Freelander2 manual for approx. 5-weeks and have to say its a good car and I was almost tempted to chop the Defender. BUT, the boot is ridiculously small for the cars size, you feel like you are sat too far back when trying to pull out of junctions. Although it can corner fast and ride out bumps well, the steering is devoid of feel and too artificial. The engine is zippy up to approximately 70 mph, but just seems to run out of steam above that. Even with the stop/start and normally changing up early when the light comes on I struggle to better 34 mpg, though I did get 37 mpg on a longer run. The change-up light takes some getting sued to (and sometimes needs ignoring) as it will come on whilst climbing a hill at, say 1600 rpm in 5th, but if you changed to 6th it would struggle like hell!

So let me summarise MAN-UP AND GET A DEFENDER

you know its the only choice/right decision! Thumbs Up

I hear ya Harv, it was just a momentary lapse of reason!

I think I'd get bored of the FL and would always be questioning my choice, whereas with the Defender what you see is what you get, along with tons of character.

Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Parsley, all joking and heckling apart you should definitely do a few decent extended test drives. Get the dealer to lend you a few different vehicles over different weekends to see what suits you best. You should try the Disco as well. Take your time and take advantage of the test drives and once happy jump in with both feet. Very Happy Proud owner 110 Utility XS

TBH I was seriously considering a Freelander2 in place of the Defender for my company car. Then I came to my senses Wink

You need to really think hard about the Defender as it is a different type of beast to anything else, its also honest. Other motorists let you out, kids love them, people forgive you, idiots realise your bumper or rear X-member (plus tow bar) will obliterate their Saxo and so back off, its great for seeing over hedges and enjoying views, they're not as large as people think (foot print narrower than a Focus and similar length too). They are just awesome!!!

I'm trying to convince my wife she needs a 90 50th, a blue 90 with black canvas top or green 90 with sand canvas top.

So far I seem to be having very little success Sad

Hello all,

I am back after a long leave of absence, house selling takes an awful long time!

But, I'm now at the stage where it's do or die! Decision time!

I'm carking it about owning a Landy, but my mum managed 3 so I'm sure will be alright.

Went to a dealership a couple of weeks ago and sat in a Freelander 2, it's nice, in a plush way, but I know myself, the interior wouldn't last 5 minutes with me, and it just felt like a car, albeit a nice one that can do a lot, but it's a no.

The young salesman showed me two 90s, a real plain jane bare bones 'van', on the forecourt at £17999 plus VAT. It's no frills, do those ones even come with Traction Control? I only had a little time so didn't have all the questions for him. Real looker though, white steel wheels, grey, and a white top, classic defender look.

Another one, in black, an XS, but with decals and stuff. 25k iirc plus VAT.

They are both being sold as new but on 10 plates, hmm....

If I'm paying for a new one I'd like it new, they have been on the forecourt for months...probably rusting away lol.

When I mentioned a discount for cash he went a bit funny! Said they actually make money on finance, which I can understand, but maybe he thought I was just a tyre kicker...

So anyway, couple of questions, 10 plate is 2011my as is 60? (I've only owned old cars).

Are their prices reasonable?

What's the best way to haggle a discount?

TIA, sorry for the waffle, but getting excited!
