X2 Well done by Matzker, an upgrade which is stealing the show, very visible, but tasty, and with some clear references to past important historic events. On top of that it has the Recaros. G'Day Eric, thanks for that, I couldn't read the link because it was in German, but I get the message, a 5.2L Rover V8, which would be very good, but,.......not as good as the GM 6.2L LS3, a light, lazy, very powerful V8, 400bhp+ standard, but 7/800hp is easily available,...we have thousands of such engines on the road in Aus, where the LS3 is standard equipment in many cars.
"There is no substitute for cubic inches", or as they say these days, "there's no replacement for displacement"? I'd love such an engine in our 90, but as you & I both know, it ain't simply a matter of dropping the engine in, that's the easy part, it's all the other stuff that goes with it, transmission, brakes, suspension, rear end, electrical etc etc etc, that is the challenge, & which puts any such vehicle totally out of my reach,...but I can dream! Click image to enlarge That is definitely the nicest pie in the sky defender I have seen so far. Personally I'd hate to have a petrol powered defender - to me it just seems wrong. It goes against the commonly held view, but I'm with Shaggydog on this - and I had a 50th V8 for 3yrs as my daily driver! Even I was a little surprised, but when I got used to the different driving characteristics of my Puma (my 1st ever diesel LR product), I found I actually enjoyed driving it more with it's diesel torque & manual gearbox... The noise of the V8 was nice, but apart from that (in standard form) they are disappointingly anaemic, and what little torque they do possess is mostly lost in the ancient slush-box and over-gearing. It can of course be improved with engine chipping & re-gearing the transfer box, but you're still left with 16-17mpg if you're lucky, which if you're using it for all journeys quickly becomes a drag. It's different I suppose if it's just your fun-vehicle, where normal considerations don't apply... Or if you are lucky enough to have access to cheap petrol. IMO the best special they could do would have a bigger diesel, maybe with a modern multi-geared auto 'box! |
