Maybe because it was a while inbetween services , and they thought it may need it
Or maybe had some sludge build up from cheap oil etc its 48k or 4 years otherwise if you went only by miles some wouldn't get serviced for 10yrs |

Yeah I guess I was expecting it to have had the 36K/3 year service but for some reason it hasn't. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

I don't want to sound negative but you seem to be needing to do a lot of work to your new purchase and only just finding out about the service schedule now seems strange I hope you got it at a good price!

Sorry I should have said I knew it only had 2 services when in a perfect world it should have had 3 stamps in the book with a 4th one becoming due.
I guess what I hadn't expected was for one of the 2 services to have been the 48K (maybe there isn't a difference between a 24k/48k?) and I'd also not come across a vehicle having an engine flush before. 1st service was "A" 12k on 24.8.12 @ 12,516 miles 2nd service was "B" 48K on on 25.2.14 @ 29,778 miles 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic 2010 90 SMC Over Land Nero Edition - Santorini Black Metallic (Now Departed) |

Catherine, the engine flush and fuel treatment are up sell items at a dealer. The reception staff get paid a commission if they sell those treatments to people having services, near enough every service when I worked at stratstone (for 4 years) had engine flush/fuel/oil treatments added.
Nowt to be concerned about |

Similar situation to myself if I am perhaps reading this correctly........
For the last couple of years I have only covered very little mileage in my Defender and decided as a result not to waste money by having the services scheduled 'on time' but mileage. No point paying out for a service when you have only done perhaps 2000 miles since the last one. At 36,000 miles the vehicle went in for a service but due to the fact it was over four years old they carried out a four year 48,000 mile service. They even asked whether I wanted the stamp in the next available space or in the relevant slot missing one. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Don't forget we all know somebody that has an old beat up Peugeot that he's never serviced since he bought it and its only broken twice in the ten years he's dragged it around the UK. And both those repairs were exhaust issues.
The point I'm making is this, while I know that oil degrades and that degradation happens over time, and is accelerated by heavy use. The actual issue is due to the sales arena. Mine I bought with only two stamps and also should've had 3 with a 4th due. Service history didn't bother me as I inspected the vehicle and since purchase only had on problem that was sorted under service recall, the vac pump. Unfortunately the hit comes when you try to sell on in the future a dealer will pick at the missing stamps. While you can justify your missing stamps they'll claim they cant justify for resale to a new customer. Many manufacturers claim 20,000 mile oil is now used on their engines yet land rover don't seem to. While there is a definate need to service vehicles this need is tainted by the need to sell a product. Shorter intervals mean more servicing equals more money for land rover garages. I forgot where I'm going with this but I spent long enough writing it so I'm posting it haha I'm sure someone may be able to pluck out my point |

Condition Based/Long Service Intervals from memory seemed to be all the rage when we were buying cars between 2003 - 2007.
Now I'm seeing it mentioned less and less. From memory all bar 1 of the brands we sell ALL have service schedules of 1 year/12,500 miles. The 1 that doesn't has the option of Long Life Service, but we have to "activate" it at PDI. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic 2010 90 SMC Over Land Nero Edition - Santorini Black Metallic (Now Departed) |

Perhaps TOB you may have been heading in this direction and your point was going to be...... If the vehicle is a 'keeper' it matters not one jot! My last Discovery which was a 50th Anniversary went to a mate of mine who has not had it serviced since 2003. It still runs.... You have to think about how the car was used. As an example my D3 needs service by now as it's covered just a little more then the planned 24000 km since last service that was about 2 years ago.
Oh yes I hear you sayimng already that's very bad. But I hardly drive short distances in it. 90% of what I drive with it is 100km or longer including 2 trips to Poland and a few times to the Czech republic, 2 times skiing in France. That alone is close to 20000km the rest are trips to the family. I know oil deteriorates with age but more by short distances and not getting upto the right temperature. If you don't drive the distance and drive short trips frequently I would still change the oil say every year. If you drive mainly long distances you can easily drive some more over the given service schedule. Oh I forgot a trip to Germany: Click image to enlarge Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Catherine- Don't want to put a dampener on it here, but seen as it's had 2 services at Hunters in Chester, you may as we'll be saying "it's had 2 half cocked services that weren't done properly". Just speaking from past experience! By far, THE worst dealership I've come across! An engine to TDi for!
