If they're the 'second generation' Mach 5s £450 for five is a really good price! Even if tatty £30 each for a zinc wash and powder coating they'd be good as new and still a bargain to boot!

Can you actually buy the 2nd gen Mach 5's yet?
If so what price are they? I see Devon have 1 bare steel original for £151. |

Matt Lee the original manufacturer of Mach Wheels (just as a point of interest the number comes from the stud pattern - 4 studs = a Mach 4 wheel) has for some time stated that he is going back into production of his wheels. It is a long story but I believe he sold the manufacturing rights to someone else who was not as successful as he and he then bought the rights back! I spoke to him about 10 months ago about availability and he was a very busy individual trying to get Mach Wheel production up and running again. Beadlockers were going to be his initial priority but I haven't heard of anyone running on 'New Mach 5s' with the 'flared spokes and redesigned centres' as of yet! Mach wheels have been well-proven and 2006 was their 12th year of production and had certification for road use (if you needed it) Beadlockers I believe did not! If you look at my Mach 5 photo above you will notice that the edge of the wheel is 'rolled over!' The very early Mach 5s did not have this rolled edge. There was also an issue with early Mach 5s with a small number of them suffering cracks. I love the look and functionality (turning circle is even sharper as is steering response compared to standard) of my Mach 5s and would retain them for my next vehicle. It is down to personal choice and my terminology but if I was buying a second hand set if they didn't have the rolled over edge I may be inclined to steer clear! The 'second generation' I referred to has the rolled edge! Hope this helps and clarifies.
As a footnote it is very inlikely that you will get an unused set anywhere else. Believe you me last February I exhausted every avenue in my own search, even speaking to 'the Master' himself ....I just had another look at the Devon 4X4 site under 'Special Offers' and my last quote still stands....no pressure!

What size tyre would go on a 16 x 10" wheel??

I'm running on 15" wheels and went for a high flotation size of 32 x 11.5 x 15. On a 10" rim my tyre width is 11.5".
To maintain your rolling radius as close as possible to original I would suggest a high flotation size of 31 x 11.5 x 15. That would give you the same look and available arch space as me. Worthy of mention is that I also have standard heavy duty suspension that gives me a 1" lift so 30" may be the choice for you. You would need to speak to a tyre specialist for metric equivalent but I would hazard a guess that 285/75 would be suitable (on relection due to offset you could go wider possibly upto 305) depends on how 'sticky out' you want them to be. Will take a picture of mine from a different perspective and add it to this post. My next boot of choice will be BFG KM2 for longevity as I reckon 12-15000 miles will be my lot on my Coopers. My question to you is how do you get on with the wheels during your MOT? as they stick out further than the wheel arch. I know this seams like a stupid question. |

Fekete has larger diameter and wider tyres than me, his went through an MOT and I have been 'reliably' informed that it shouldn't be an issue for me 'nudge nudge wink wink!' More than one way to skin a cat and still sleep soundly in my bed.....I have also kept my Boosts so I can always ask if my wheels are going to be an issue....if so I'll nail my Boosts back on for the test! I was reading 2 lro's last night and there were two pumas both rolling on 305's and I think 16 x 8 staun wheels. |

Ironically after my EGR Valve replacement my dealership did refuse to 'road test' it due to the wheels....Still as I stated to them "Seat cover or not it keeps an oily rag out of MY seat and stops him driving MY vehicle. No worries I shall road test it myself and return it forthwith in the event of any issues!"
