Front Mudflaps Attachment Query
Just a quick question,

I am in the process of what I had assumed would have been a quick 20 minute job

Replacing my Front Mudflaps,

After a quick inspection, the offside Mudflaps was replaced quite easy as it was attached to the holding bracket with three 8mm bolts.
Easy enough

I got round to the nearside and the bolt parts are totally different
They have a domed head on the front (tyre facing) side and what I thought was a nut on the other
side, but it's not moving. I got some mole grips onto it and fully expected it to unscrew, but all that's happened
is the domed head turned with it.
Are these some for of rivet??
Too dark to take photos now, but hoped that somebody might know what they are to aid with removal.

I will be replacing with bolts/nuts when I can get these off

I will get pics up tomorrow, but I think the Dremel will be getting an outing tomorrow!! Lol

One of two things by the sounds of it.

First is a rivet (if the dome is totally smooth) in which case you will have to resort to the drill or a chisel to remove the head. The actual rubber flaps on my TD5 and Tdci are attached to the metal brackets with large rivets.

Second could be a dome headed screw into a rivnut. If it is this you will have a receptor for some form of screwdriver/allen key in the dome. If it is this the rivnut is spinning so secure it with your mole grips and undo the screw. Then you need to drill out the rivnut and replace it.

Pattern ones are nasty hammered over aluminium rivets, I cut through them with a sharp wood chisel cleaned and painted everything, then set screws and penny washers.
