I somehow doubt it, many end up with broken legs. (Horses) Most of them wannabe VIP's. In my book not a good image for LR.. Why is the red one parked on the yellows anyway, there's a space behind it? |

JWL - Everything is fine as far as I'm concerned providing it's legal.
Everyone has to abide by the laws of this country and that doesn't mean anyone is exempt whoever they are or think they may be. Same with speed limits really, you've got to abide by it. Some are silly enough to push their luck, they might get away with it for a while but it'll catch up with them one day. Of course accidents happen though, I sometimes end up slightly over it to get past push bikes safely.  |

The amount of ignorance shown here is what brought the hunting ban in the first place. Within 12 months the ban will hopefully be lifted anyway.
Why must everyone be "posh" who goes hunting ....total crap , there not. There are some a#seholes but hey.. show me where you dont find some in life. I have never seen a horse break its leg on any hunt, maybe one or two riders but never a horse. All the objectors have only seen bits on TV and never actually been hunting, they just dont like the idea....so it needs banning. But if you greenlane legally there is no problem what so ever, and the woolly hat brigade cannot do anything about it.
It's the local councils etc that's would like to see the last few remaining lanes closed down because they are classified as roads with vehicular access all be it not metalled they have to maintain it. For this reason this costs money, money that they are strapped for thanks to a certain PM. I guess some lanes it might be the landowners that are required to cut hedges etc but many don't want to because they just don't want people laning down there. (I can understand why in some cases) Unfortunately because of the few that cannot behave we all pay the price, the same is true of all walks of life I suppose. The issues they are finding now is since the NERC act where the majority of the then legal lanes have now been shut they are so overgrown without vehicles transversing them that they are practically impassable. Pretty much rendering them impassable for the first time in many many years.  |

I hear what your saying pal. I have been laning for the last 25 years and it makes my blood boil that lanes I have used in the yorkshire dales for this length of time suddenly are out of bounds, certain ones that have been closed could have a battalion of tanks driven up them and it wouldnt harm the surface. Thats what I meant about damage is just the excuse, not in all cases I accept that. Not a million miles from me is a moor that is very popular with walkers, the council proposed a 12 month ban on walkers because of the damage (believe me.. what a feckin mess they made, in places it had 11 paths running parallel) All hell broke loose so the council dropped the ban on walkers and instead used helicopters to fly in yorkstone flags to put down for the walkers. How much did that cost? I suspect about as much as a new hospital. Thats why "damage by 4x4s" is just an excuse ! To me its all about whats PC, driving your landy in the countryside is not PC, same as hunting, shooting and even mountain biking and horseriding. All we can do is live with it 2003 Td5 90

Trouble is its the off piste drivers and the idiots that like to wheel spin in the mud types.

That is abuse of the countryside but a minority, usually an issue where built up areas meet the countryside. I see it time and time again this way, nearer built up areas you see the litter and illegal activity down UCR's etc. But in directions that are more remote it's prestine. I don't tend to lane much now because the lanes near me are so short and few on the ground, some are great but others impassable without damage or ridiculous terrain. Shame because some of the best are impassable unless on foot. There is a lane I know of that was closed illegally by the council but due to the landowner making up actual lies about a bridge or something that they made out to be of historic value of which is not the case at all. Of course the council don't know this. Reason being is the landowner ( crown estate tenant) has a wedding reception business so doesn't want the "off roader riffraff" types driving past or down the drive. Cattle are placed in the field too with a footpath through to try and finish the job by trying to stop people walking down there too. Off to bed now, selfishness of people around my area makes me so annoyed I have to laugh off how stupid they are.  |
