Not at all, the green lanes were closed because the bobble hat brigade took the view that the 4x4 fraternity were all hooligans tearing up the lanes and used their, not inconsiderable, money and political connections to get the lanes closed. Sad to say most of this happened while the people who claimed to want to represent the 4x4 fraternity were spending our money and their time threatening each other with court action so we were pretty much unrepresented as a group during the debate because they felt they had more pressing things to deal with (each other). There was never any suggestion that illegal use of routes without motorised vehicle access was a factor in the debate. The whole debate, right from the start, revolved around removing legal access rights. The primary argument against legal green laning was, and remains, conflict between user groups. The bobble hatted brigade can deliberately create and report such conflict even when it doesn't exist and that "evidence" is then used to put pressure on local and national government to close the lanes due to conflict. As for the hunting debate, it is part of exactly the same view that saw us lose access to most of the lanes. It's a ban fuelled by ignorance and prejudice, driven by a bunch of would be do gooders who, when pressed, can never actually come up with any first hand or even second hand knowledge of the subject. Again you have a small minority of people who create conflict and distress for people following or taking part in a legal pastime. They then use that conflict as an excuse for preventing the legal activity. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I'm guessing, even if the owners of the Defenders are members of D2, they may not now wish to be associated with Stilton on this occasion...
Apologies for the error of my ways, I should have just mentioned 'as seen in Stilton' and left it at that... I did not intend to kick up such a storm among friends of D2, especially at this 'Peace on Earth' (and on D2) time of year... Sorry chaps... Rog... The GREEN One...
