I reckon I'd be having a go at polishing it out using first something like a paint cleaner, (a bit harsher than normal car polish), have a few goes with that, gradually, not too hard, & see how you go. After a few goes, it might become a bit less noticeable, & you may be happy to live with it.
If the door get's painted, being metallic, ya just can't paint the door, ya'd have to blend in the two ajoining panels, or ya're gonna notice it. Pickles. |

If its though to undercoat then not worth trying to polish out
dont forget that quote should be to blend in to panels round , so really its for repair of one panel and prep/ paint three panels still expensive but youre taken to a main dealer , so cant expect much else ! |

I had a few scratches on mine a while back, one as deep as yours looks. Bought some touch up paint, gave it several coats to make sure the scratch was full of paint and then gradually cut it back, starting with 800 grain W&D paper, working up to 2500. Then polished. I would challenge anyone to see it now. Cost about £20 and 3 hours work.

Yes a bit rich, but as has been said what you'd expect from main dealer! I honestly expected circa £500 but as urine has been extracted I'll sort elsewhere.

I did a similar nasty to my D4 door, and local main dealer (Guy Salmon) quoted £300 inc vat to repair, so why that is so much, I have no idea. The only difference is my D4 is Fuji White, so is a solid colour. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

If that was the case they are even more stupid than we give them credit for! An insurance company would never authorise a repair based on those prices More likely they got a quote from a sub-contractor, doubled the figure & added 10% because Tarquin's mummy had a similar scratch on her Range Rover sport from parking in the squash club car-park and she was more than happy to pay £1000 |

Its great we have so many painters on the site perhaps they should offer their services
Opinions will always differ Polish (OK if it works) Smart Repair (Fine if your flipping the car but doubtful on longevity look closely you will see the repair all day long) Edge to Edge (Fine if you like the harlequin effect White Gareth is hard to match) Panel and Blend (The correct method but sometime massively marked up ) Oh and never quote from an image far to many variables to consider ie Polish what if its been done before there might not be enough UM's left etc etc I know what option I'd take all day long but then I can repair & paint |
