The MIL is very frustrating.
It's worth bearing in mind that the EGR can often cause MAF fault codes to appear, when the EGR is the culprit. The EGR often causes poor running and performance, and often plays up. Fir this reason I got mine tuned and blanked off, not cheap but cheaper and less headache in the long run than replacing EGR's and messing with it and living with poor performance. |

Charleston,
Yes i am talking Defender and there are units in the pipeline to update even Defender. The wireless reading of codes and engine performance can be done by anyone with the right set-up and some technical guidance. I totally support giving the owner knowledge, but given the complexity of engine control systems today, somethings will be out of the reach of enthusiast unless explained by someone with system knowledge.Yes,it is very difficult to get manufacturers to admit there is a concern, because as much as they shout customer care it is cost that decides. You don't have to pay £50-£100 every time, get yourself a descent code reader that will work on TDCi and when you have a fault you can seek help and advice on the forum. Regards DieselYoda |

Wow, I very surprised that the system might be available for the Defender and look forward to it. I find the reader I have, does not show everything but gives me some insight as to what might be going on, like you say from that point I sift through Google searches to find what it might be and ask questions on forums like this one. Actually a search through this Tdci forum has turned up lots of helpful tips. £50+ is what some garages are charging for hooking up a reader, which is why I went for the wifi reader for £20.

I had my opinion of LR dealers and LR Extended Warranty changed today!
My 2.4 110 was booked in for 'MY2011/2012 Recall Action P047/048 Front Axle Case' and TH White offered free 40 point check at same time. I told them about error codes and it was only intermittent and stopped after a short run on motorway. I also asked them to look at diesel tank breather. Took an hour or so and when finished TH White said that they had spoken to LR Extended Warranty already and they had agreed to pay 1) replace EGR valve, their code reader displayed same error codes as mine, 2) disassemble rear diff to sort out a leak 3) replace tank breather and 4) have another look at the clunk/backlash when releasing clutch. So it looks like the £50 a month Extended Warranty has already paid for itself and I'll be renewing it. |
