I wonder if anyone can help me. I believe that on the newer defender's the alpine windows are 4mm thick and the older ones are 5mm thick, but is the shape the same.
The reason I am asking is I've been offered some but the seller is not sure what age vehicle they are off, and didn't want to get them if they won't fit a 95 defender 90. From what I can remember, 4mm glass was fitted from 1988/9 onwards.
As you will probably have to fit new seals it should not matter if they are 4 or 5mm provided you have the correct seal. For 4mm thick glass use MWC4771 (vin FA345886 onwards) or for 5mm thick glass use 302177 (to vin EA345885). Also, use genuine LR seals, with the aftermarket ones you will have a devil of a job getting them fitted, I know first hand all about this and ended up having to replace new aftermarket seals with genuine LR. Thanks Bob. The Windows come with the seals, which I have been told are serviceable. I just wanted to ensure that when I fit the new roof lining that the two elements match up.
Is there any advantage in the 4mm over the 5mm? I have now got a set of 4mm alpine windows for my 90 but will need some seals as the ones sent with the windows were perished.
The next question is does anyone know the position of the windows as I want to get them in the right place as I will be fitting a roof lining. Does anyone know the measurements or have a template I could use?
