Not wishing to annoy or offend BUT I have to say something. Slightly tongue in cheek but with a bit of a rant-element.

What is this Obsession people seem to have with reversing camera's these days?? I've managed perfectly fine all these years on the 'wing mirrors, rear-view mirror, over the shoulder, checks to front for front end swing, common sense and, if necessary quick open of door and have a look' technique.

In all honesty a Defender has got to be one of the easiest vehicles ever to reverse as what you see is what you get !!

Recently have needed to use my mum's little Yaris and it has a reversing camera. Can't get on with it AT ALL. It doesn't actually show what I want to see and the wide / fish eye angle actually makes the distance look all wrong. The only thing I use the camera for is to see if I got the damn thing in gear properly! (HATE manuals!) Also, with mum's car the thing you need perhaps more is a camera on the front to say where the end of the bonnet is as I'm damned if I can see it even if I lean right up to the windscreen. If you are going forward into a space (which I rarely do as I drive the proper way) it is insanely difficult to know where the front end has got to. But again, it is getting to know your car, and using judgement and common sense!

Just as you are not wishing to offend anyone, I do not wish to offend you, but have you tried reversing a 110 hard top with no windows? There is a vast amount of unknown area, especially when reversing perpendicular onto a road, for example off a driveway. I'm not sure how much of it would be solved with a reversing camera, but it's a bit of a sweeping generalisation! And I have a very bad reversing track record with my 110! 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Germany 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Baltic Blue
My father can put up shelves without using a spirit level - and gets it right every time. However, I did not inherit his superpowers and would never dream of attempting such a foolish stunt.

He's pleased I use available technology instead of cocking the job up and doesn't scoff at my inferior skills... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

@ Couplands, I bought myself a single din head unit that has all the bits and bobs with it, A front screen that plays dvd's, it has fm/am radio, sd card reader, you can plug your iphone thingy in the front and also supports a reversing camera. It was a second hand purchase off ebay for £21 so I thought I'd enter the world of gadgetry as the price was favourable to me and a damn site cheaper than buying a new one. I've just had a reversing camera turn up from the far east today and I might get round to having a play fitting it over Christmas. The screen is wired up to be activated to camera mode by a signal wire from the reverse light switch which appeals to the novelty factor.
The head unit I have is a Sevic, which I've never heard of but it does the job. Here's a link to the sale page http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171489073207?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT
The other novelty with the unit is that it has a slightly larger face to it even though it only takes a single din slot and is fitted in my centre console of my Td5 that has the later centre console dash and causes me no problems at all.

That looks a great buy. I can't believe that none of the major manufacturers make a similar model. Seems a obvious solution for all us Defender owners...Smile

Cheers
