I've just noticed today that something's odd with my indicator stalk...
If I indicate right then turn the wheel right, the indicator stays on, then as i turn the wheel back to centre it clicks off... That's all correct... Now if I inficate left then turn the wheel left, the indicator turns off... I have to re-engage it to carry on indicating... When moving the wheel back to the Middle again, the indicator turns off as it should. So it's just the operation whilst turning the wheel left that doesn't seem to work properly... Or is this just a quirk of the defender??? |

Shouldn't do that, but I would say plenty fail. Both my td5 and my dads tdi do it. Same way round too

Mine does the same but turning right at a roundabout. I have noticed that sometimes it stays on. I think it has to do with what position the steering wheel is at when you indicate.

Of the 130 plus defenders we have sold this year we have had a couple that did this ..
Its a faulty stalk that need replacing .. Should be no problem under warranty . Cheers Simon UT |

Ah brill. Yes I thought it was a problem not a quirk! Will raise the issue with local LR dealer. Needs to go back and have a couple of other things fixed at the same time too! Cheers as always for the great response! 👍😄

Bought the 130 March 2013 and Im having indicator stalk problems from day 1. I don't know how many times it's been back for this. They even changed the stalk, but again, nothing solved.
I have sent them two videos recorded with a GoPro and politely asked them to study it and discuss it with Land Rover as this is annoying and above all, dangerous in crowded cities I regularly need to be. What you have is probably just the start of the problems I have now. You don't want to hear the words I say when the stalk does things I don't want for the tenth time within 15 minutes of driving through Amsterdam.  |

The indicator cancal has nothing to do with weather the column is central or not
The cancelling ring is part of the switch and locates to steering wheel by pegs on the wheel the cancelling ring has two cut outs in it , on the blue ring ( think its blue ) there is a arrow that needs to point the right way , it can be fitted 180 degrees out , the indicators will still work but there can be a different amount each way to cancel not uncommon if someones had the wheel off and the ring has moved and someone lines it back up to refit wheel but doesnt know about the right postion of the ring could may have something to do with it maybe . |

I haven't had the wheel off... But now I come to think of it, I had a problem a few weeks ago with not being able to get the steering wheel to "lock" when the key was taken out... Could that have something to do with it?!

I took my orig steering wheel off and fitted a Wild Bear boss/steering wheel and did not bother fitting the self cancel roller pins
It does not bother me at nor do I notice they don't self cancels at all - but then I mainly ride a motor bike so as I'm use to use to canceling indicators manually  |

Dont think this is right - the warning lights on a dash all have to work correctly, the self cancelling it not a requirement, Spoke to my Mechanic mate who ownes an garage and MOT bay and he would not fail self cancelling not working but would fail if the stork did not turn the indicators on and off correctly |
