Help-advice needed please
Having had my headlights fail on me, I have trawled the forums, read all the posts and followed the advice given # Changed headlight switch-worked but still failed # Fitted Landreiziger loom (nice easy fit) # Worked for a couple of days, but now intermittently failing # Ran lights on test for 30 minutes all fine, turned switch off, turned on again and no lights So would the switch which is only 6 weeks old have failed again? (have ordered another Lucas OEM switch to fit) my drive to work and home is in the dark so lights are on 2 hours a day Could it be a problem within the original loom that is left in place? Lights are JW Speakers so not drawing too much power Roolites 170 linked into to be on with full beam only, (these work on flasher when lights have failed) Have fitted LED upgraded sidelights with DLR's and all seem to be OK-rears and indicators work fine, all wired back to a Blue Sea ST Blade Fuse Block in battery compartment, which has never given a problem. Switch looks fine when taken off, contacts look clean, no sign of melting, spots are on a relay, really scratching my head now I do my thing and you do yours. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine |

Is the problem with dip beam, full beam or both ?

Total head light failure on switch, If i pull stalk I get full beam no problem, indicator arm/switch was changed in November as well as a precaution really appreciate the comments I do my thing and you do yours. Can you test the jws units?
Check battery box, fuse box .. If they are ok, looks like loom problems .. |

It could be the relay which energizes with ignition on to power the headlights.
My approach would be to wait until the next failure then test with a voltmeter to see where I have power and where I do not. That should allow the fault to be isolated reasonably easily. |

Have you checked the fuse holders that came with the new headlight wiring loom? Thought someone had written that they had fuse holder fail?

I just had similar problem, intermittent headlight failure
Turned out to be dim dip unit so I bridged it like we used to do at the main stealers. Perfect 2003 Td5 90 2013 sport hse 2012 700 raptor quad 2012 siromer 4x4 tractor |

Was a dodgy relay for me on the 300tdi a few months back, assumed wrongly it was the switch.
Should have used blackwolf method ... follow the electrons (or lack of), where are they, and where are they not. From supply to input to switch to output.. etc etc Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

My intermittent head light issue were all caused by a melted header ( blue plastic things )in the loom behind the dash.
A nail had got stuck and rubbed through part of the loom. Flash would always work but the rest were intermittent The time to find it that issue is what caused my defender to become a toy rather than my main car last winter |

Checked connections and all looked good, pulled the headlight relay in front of gear lever (yellow and 3rd front right, 2 along from Immobiliser relay) and bottom/live pin was blued, and connection looked twisted, straightened out connection swapped relay with heated rear screen relay as they are the same, so now just have to monitor to see if fixed-if not carry on with process of elimination-hopeful heated rear screen plays up which will prove it was the relay-or not I do my thing and you do yours.
