Thanks, dorsetsmith. I had a feeling that aftermarket is the only option, but given that any Defender used for towing in connection with a business now must have a tacho it seems a bit daft that there isn't a factory or dealer fitted option.
Do you know who fitted your works ones? I know you're local to me and it would be useful to know a local installer/calibrator familiar with Defender installations. |

I'm sure SVO could fit one from new. they used to show it in the *special* catalogue years back.
probably far cheaper to get aftermarket though. |

Hi All,
Just to confirm, we unfortunately do not offer a tacho option for the Defender. We do offer speed limiter options of 56 mph, 70 mph and 76 mph on these vehicles at time of build. Many thanks, Ryan |

In the past speed limiters were built into Land Rover 2. Litre, 2.3 litre, 2.litre petrol and diesel engines you did not have a choice, except they were not called speed limiters just engines that had no power to go above a certain speed especially uphill |

Ryan, out of interest, why not? Since any Defender (or Disco etc for that matter) used commercially with a trailer now requires a tacho by law, I would have thought that it might be a useful thing to offer. If I bought a vehicle (or fleet of vehicles) for my business would the dealer arrange for the fitting, or would I have to make my own arrangements? If the latter, would it affect the warranty? It seems a little odd, and it doesn't seem unreasonable if you were to buy a commercial vehicle for it to be supplied in a ready-to-use state, ie tacho fitted. The way your reply is worded also suggests that you do offer tacho options for other models, just not the Defender. Is that the case? Thanks, Roger |

All Ryan says is that they dont offer it for the Defender, nothing with regards other models.
I have to admit that with the Puma model dash change I was surprised that an allowance for a tachograph wasnt designed in, seeing as the law had been there for a long time before. When I had one fitted it was by Rygor Commercials in Swindon. At the time the position wasnt crucial for compliance then, so mine was bolted to the back of the cubby box. |
