Have you considered Navi through a new HU? Appreciate that is the costly route though.
You can purchase the SVX mounting bracket for a Garmin navi but it's costly for a piece of plastic and I decided against it myself. Main issue is the power supply, I've made my own with some custom wiring down the back so there is no lighter socket plugs in the way etc it's all hidden. I bought the SVX bracket, cost a fortune and very tricky to track down at the time. There seems to be more stock of them now. I had to fabricate an aluminium backing plate for it to bolt up to otherwise the plastic dash is abit weedy. Perhaps that bit (as originally supplied with the SVX kit) is is now available as well?
I fed a lead through a hole in the dash, with hindsight, I would have fed the cable from behind the mount so it was less visbile when the tablet was not mounted. Click image to enlarge Bodged up a garmin mount to the car dock for my tablet and got a decent sized sat nav that my ageing eyes can make out details on. Click image to enlarge Mostly works fine, but in direct sunlight, the tablet refuses to charge anymore, claiming it is too warm, so might not make it all the way to the destination if I don't start with it fully charged. |

I thought most the the more recent top end Garmin sat navs came with a mounting arm that also incorporated the power and a speaker. If you use the SVX arm you will not be able to benefit from these functions.
I would not want to advertise the fact that the sat nav may be sat in the cubby box with having a permanent mounting on the dash. Sucker mount to windscreen works very well. |
