Many are using illegal 100w bulbs, I know that much.

My pet hate is incorrect use of fogs. They're not tested for alignment at the MOT, so t0ssers in 10-year old cars have them pointing up to look for aircraft

A lot of drivers think they are ok with one headlight ... And if equipped make up for broken headlight with fog lights
Especially bad for 45 tonne lorries Plus have you ever seen a European lorry with beam deflectors for uk roads ? Rant over |

No, we do not see that here at all. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with driving with low beam plus fog lights in order to light up side of the road close to vehicle better, that is as long as they are 1. high quality including strong sideways spread, 2. homologated, 3. good condition, and 4. perfectly aimed.... Like mine Click image to enlarge In all honesty, a lot of cars have factory front fog lights which are a joke, they merely light up the road so close in front of the vehicle with too limited sideways spread, that 90% of the light output is falling right in front of the vehicle where the driver cannot even see it. I hate all these led day running lights to bright and the ones that cyclists use seem to dazzle bad as well

Cyclists are in a level of there own though. So often you cannot actually see where the cyclist is because all you can see is an obscenely bright light which burns your retina.
There ether massively too bright, or flashing around all over the place which is very distracting or worse still have no lights or reflectors at all and are wearing all dark clothing on a 50mph country road! Cycling is undergoing some changes in regards to lights. It's already illegal to have just a flashing light on your bike, you can have a flashing light if you also have an 'always on' light but not a flashing light on it's own. That's because it's very difficult to gauge distance to a flashing light so an 'always on' light is required. It has been mentioned in the cycling press that bike lights are much brighter than lights on motor vehicles and so should be legislated against or at least legislated so they are the same brightness of motor vehicle lights. But cycling gets away with it to a degree because they're not motor vehicles but I can see a day coming soon when ultra bright lights are banned.

It doesn't really bother me, if someone dazzles me I just dazzle them back...simples.
those online forums aren't worth the paper they're (not) written on... if hundreds of thousands of votes on foxhunting couldn't persuade the gov't to keep it legal then a few people moaning about headlights isn't going to achieve much. |

Mobile phones f k. I took a journey from Chamonix to Geneva airport a month or so ago, as a passenger. Transfer in a Renault Traffic, so sitting high up, over a distance of 85kms and at what counts for rush-hour here in the Alps. I would suggest well over 50% of drivers were using their phone (calls or text) whilst we barrelled along at 130kmh, and that went up to 80-90% whilst we crawled through the border. Absolutely staggering. In general it was youngsters and the vast majority girls. I say this not as a grumbling old misogynist but as clear fact. I even saw one girl adjusting her (ample) cleavage to take a selfie. As a regular motorbike rider I am all too aware of the actions of idiot drivers, but it has got really bad. Most drivers have never been on a bike, so never felt vulnerable, merely cocooned in their metal box, as such they do things they would never consider if they thought it might hurt themselves. But here-in lies the problem. First, everyone things being allowed to drive is a right rather than a luxury and further our views of the dangers/policing are so warped, we are more scared about being banned for drinking etc, than that we might kill someone. As such, the only appropriate measure (as quite frankly texting on a phone is as dangerous as drink driving) is to ramp up the fines to bans. Anyway, rant over....
