Ask castrol direct.
From the days of having a new vw and ford - the ford oil is different the the vw and requires different as they dont meet the same specs. Actually i have a gold castrol can in the garage for the vw we sold 2 years ago. So i would say, if your really stuck it will be ok (better than nothing) otherwise ask castrol and buy the proper stuff. Mike |

Not all 5w-30 oils meet the Ford spec. Just those which are A1/B1 if you like (beside the WSS M2C 913-B spec). Some people use the some 5w-30 with higher HTHS index in order to protect the engine in detriment of fuel economy. Puma 110" SW

Go in to the Castrol site and list the make and model of your car and it will tell you which oil to use. Very easy to do. For the Defender 2.4Tdci or Puma it lists Magnatec 5W-30 A1 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Just checked the Castrol site. The SLX is replaced by the Castrol Edge range and are not suitable for Ford engines except the Galaxy fitted with the VWPD engine, latest Ford Focus and Ka. Stick with the Magnatec 5w-30 A1. Buying a litre for topping up purposes will not break the bank and it will kept you on the correct side of the warranty should you ever need it. Give them no space or exscuse to weasel if a claim should arise. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Cheers for the replies guys!
I won't risk using it, don't fancy causing any issues, it's been almost well behaved for 1000 miles... |
