I had a rattle in the rear of the 90. On further investigation this nut fell out. It came from the bottom of the trim that surrounds the rear side windows.

It looks like one of the nuts that hold the side panels onto the tub. When I took all the trim off mine I found that half the bolts didn't have nuts on and two had loose nuts. It was quite worrying to have found the only thing keeping the body on mine was probably the weight of the roofrack

Hmmmm, I suspected it might be something like that!
I won't started taking the trim off yet to check the others. Thanks Tony |

Had the exact same nut, found in exactly the same place, & I put a post up about it.
Dealer had a look, put some sort of torch/mirror along the inside of that plastic trim & said everything looked ok. I've had no more rattles, nothing is vibrating or appears to be loose etc, so I'm not too concerned. Others have had similar items found in various locations around their Defender! Pickles. |

Found the same nut when took off the rubber cap where the old style jack used to fit on the chassis at the front end.

Here is the very nut fallen from its home behind the plastic window surround panel . It's not from the panel but from the body capping from the tub to hardtop . Only solution is to locktight it on as it always comes off , there are more of them .

It is, as others have said, from the bolt that secures the side panels to the tub.
One of these on my demonstrator dropped off as I pulled away from the supplying dealer on the day I collected it We often find them loose when removing the trim to leather. |
