High pitched whistle under load
Hi All,
Ok as above, another high pitched whistle question ! I have a 110 CSW with a Stage 1 Alive map and thought that my new high pitched whistle may be coming from the exhaust manifold. However, the manifold does not show any signs of soot around 1 or 5 and the nuts are all tight so no warping there. Last changed the oil 7 thousand miles ago.

I'm now inclined to think it may be coming from the drive belt / idler pulleys as it does squeak evey now and then at idle. I took the belt off at the weekend and rotated the idler pulleys by hand and there doesn't seem to be any roughness in the bearings so now at a bit of a loss other than to resort to "they all do that sir" line of thinking !

Its done 58K and I was about to do the 60K service myself as its a small one and I wanted the oil changed, can someone let me know when the belt is scheduled for replacement please or throw any ideas into the ring regarding the whistle.
Cheers

Could it be turbo spool up? Have you de-cat it?

Have you an EGR blank plate fitted? If so is all airtight?

Thanks for the replies, egr blank kit is fitted and looks airtight, no sign of leakage. Could be turbo spool up as the note changes with throttle position, but it's only started doing it in the last few weeks and seems to be getting more pronounced.

I'll check the hoses but was under the impression that was a Puma trait rather than a TD5 one.

My money is on warped manifold. I think it'll get worse then snap the studs. At this stage it's just slightly warped but enough you can't bend manifold flat with nuts, but gasket is letting gases pass.

If it turns out to be the manifold, and it's replaced, what's to stop the replacement warping as well ? Or do you get St steel one fitted ?

If you get the warped one skimmed they supposedly don't warp again (so I've read)

Had the very same with mine 6 months ago. It was driving me mad trying to find it. Replaced the belt and pulley, checked the manifold etc for soot, I was convinced it was worse under load, or when the turbo was spooling up. Turned out to be the rear propshaft UJ. Thumbs Up

If it's that simple I will be a happy man. I Think I'm going to end up driving it for a while until it stops working or the noise gets loud enough to work out where the problem really lies. Big Cry
Thanks for the replies
