Hi
Strange one that, I have only ever fitted Td5 rocker gaskets dry or with a bit of grease to hold it in place. Sometimes using sealer can act as lubricant for the gasket allowing the half moon to be pushed out by crankcase pressure easier than if it was dry. Dunno if that helps , just my experience. |

Thanks for the reply Nick
When I first fitted each gasket they were dry the first time. This time I refitted the gasket with sealant yesterday and it has not been run until today so it's had a day to cure. Dave |

Hi Dave
Thats just blown my idea out of the window then If its sealed like you have done then nothing should escape, maybe crankcase pressure needs checking into, usually I would expect more symptoms if the pressure was too high though. Hairline crack in cover maybe ? Sorry I cant be more help mate. |

Ha, all ideas appreciated as I'm fast running out of things to try next!
I did think about replacing the cover now that you mention it. It looks ok though, no dents to marks on the sealing face. Saying that though I've also put sealant on both sides of the gasket, so any slight imperfections on the cover should be sealed. Bloody thing!! |

Have you got the top hat washer/spacer fittings present in all the holes? Are you overtightening the bolts? 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Are you sure it's the cam cover gasket ? The fuel pressure regulator is in the same area and is well known to leak and fuel runs down the block picking up crud on the way and drips off the engine black and looking like oil. Just a thought. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Hi Lou
Yes I'm pretty sure that's where it's leaking from, underneath the half moon is moist and puddles on the corner of the head / cam carrier join and runs down the block. I forgot to mention I've also replaced the fuel pressure regulator o rings and that doesn't seem to leak. |

Thought I’d update the thread..
With the gasket in place I smeared a bit of silicone around the edge of the half moon and it seems to have stopped the leak. Next time I take it apart I’ll make sure this rear corner has enough silicone on it. Dave |

I have the same issue on mine, it weeps. I have tried gen LR gasket, sealant, no sealant, non gen LR gasket and it always leaks at the half moon and also the seal above glow plug area.
Where is the PCV thing you refer to? I have tried blowing into the rocker breather and that appears fine 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

The PCV valve is the plastic thing connected to the breather hose on the rocker cover. I replaced mine and it didn't make any difference (to the weeping) although some people say it should be a service item. They're quite cheap so it might be an idea to replace it anyway if you've tried everything else.
To stop mine leaking I put a bit of silicone on my finger and wiped it around the edge of the half moon. Next time I take the rocker cover off I'll clean it up and do it properly. Dave |

How many miles are on the engine? Are the bolts and spacer/washers in good condition?
