I would be very interested in the kit, except without the grill, as I am trying to mate to a snorkel (Mantec plastic jobby)

I would need to get at least 10 people interested to get the cost down to a reasonable price. The first 4 sets I've made have cost over 220 per kit. Doing a run of 10 would see the price drop to 165 including postage and a 5/kit donation to the forum. 30+ of that is the 90mm flexible ducting and stainless jubilee clip which I don't get any cheaper buying in bulk (it might be better to let people source these themselves since the P&P charges from ASH are so reasonable and they can choose different colours if they want).
I've just fitted mine this week and its really made the Defender nicer to drive. If Land Rover did this in the first place they'd probably sell more Defenders.

EDIT: If there was enough interest in just the flange and rear mounting plate for a snorkel application I could look at adapting the current design to make it more suitable. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/

Mark how have you modified the airbox to accept the 90mm hose? Tom

Hi Tom,

Apart from removing the water separator, the air box didn't need to be modified. The 90mm pipe slides up inside the airbox opening. This is tapered and the ducting pushes in.
My application is to remove the restrictions to help the engine breath better rather than to make it watertight. Having said that, it would be fairly straight forward to seal as Tatra has done.
I had given this thought previously and had come up with 3 different options to seal it:
1. Seal the tube in the airbox opening with lots of sealant (like Tatra has shown) - cost of some sealant
2. Use a 100mm length of 90mm alloy tube with beaded ended to press fit on end inside the airbox opening and use a large jubilee clip to attach the ducting to the other end. - cost 18
3. Use a silicone 102mm to 90mm reducer to go over the outside of the airbox opening with a jubilee clip to seal it and a short length of alloy pipe to couple to the ducting - cost 38. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks Mark, I didn't realise the actual opening on the airbox was so large. That's perfect for what I want to do then which is the same as you, better breathing. Tom

Australia
Hi Guys,

Hope I am not stepping on forum rules here but as a group buy and prices were being thrown around, I thought I would offer another alternative which I developed for my own 2010 Puma and have subsequently sold quite a few to guys in Australia. If I need to contribute in some way to post this, I am happy to if the mods can let me know.

I offer a complete kit which totally solves the problem at both ends. A fully sealed unit bolts onto the inside of the guard and an offset adaptor for the air filter box end, both moulded from polyurethane. The 2 are joined with a spiral 89mm flex pipe with clamps all round to ensure a completely air tight system. The kit is supplied complete with screws, stainless steel clamps and sensor safe silicon.

The hose increases the freight but I have recently supplied a forum member the kit without the pipe which he was going to source locally. The kit without hose but including postage to the UK is $AUD170 which I believe is about 95 quid.

The system has been proven over 4 years now with many of the guys doing the infamous Cape York trip with its many deep water crossings. I have also had considerable feedback of guys also believing they get a slight power increase as a result of improved air flow. I must stress this is unconfirmed feedback but about 15 people have given it.

I personally have take my 110 fitted with a kit across Australia 3 times and into some of the most remote desert country on offer.

More info and other Defender products I do can be seen on my web page
