The bracket fits on the top rail and can go almost anywhere. I have mine between the ashtray and the instrument cluster.

Yes it is. It's a RAM Mount fitted to a ball arm. The other end of the arm is fitted to a ali plate fitted from the top rail to the bottom.

Just bought a ram mount and trying to figure out the best way to fix it to the dash. I would be particularly interested in your ali plate, how you fixed it and what thickness you chose. I've just ordered a 3mm bar and trying to work out how to bend it. |

I think the Ali was 3mm. It's fairly strong and doesn't flex much. I bent it using my Black & Decker work mate, but I guess any vice would work well. Just use a piece of wood and a hammer or mallet to bend it over.
