I'm not entirely sure I understand your post, are you saying you already have HIDs and are looking to change to a different sort?
Just have a quick read of this thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30217.html |

I think there are kits that you cut the back of the headlight out and replace the bulb with a projector unit. I think one of the bolt on bits defenders had it done if I remember correctly 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Would suggest people read the Department for Transport view on HIDs HERE
The important bits are
also
Also need headlight cleaning and self levelling to be legal So basically HID conversions are illegal. Can only fit complete HID Headlights with cleaning and self levelling. The chances of a HID conversion in a Defender in the UK being legal is slim to non existence! As for legality in Greece I have not got a clue. Brendan |

In Greece they are not so strict with that, also the car can pass technical inspection without issue, except if the light beam is in the sky!! |

Not me, that's for sure. What you talk about is simply fully illegal in each and every EU country, and rightly so. A lens which is made and type approved for H4 bulbs, is just not suited for HID bulbs and the like. Invariably cars who put HID bulbs or as you say a projector behind H4 lenses will dazzle oncoming trafic, and I am one of the people who do not really appreciate that. If you want to improve your lights, do it legally, eventually go for a type approved LED solution. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Ok you are right, but I believe if the lights are adjusted correctly no worries for the oncoming traffic.
Before 1 month i export a car with hid aftermarket headlights to Germany, the technical inspection there didn't had any issues. Because it was adjusted correctly and by professional.. Thanks |

yes there is a good chance that they would pass a mot inspection here in uk too , but still would not be legal
there are lots of things that are not illegal to sell by are illegal to use on a public highway |
