That's because I shouldn't be trying to upload photos in the middle of the night. Fixed it now.

@tookaphotoof:
Hi, I am thinking of doing something similar and was wondering about the space in the backseats and how you and your passengers feel now that a couple of months have passed. I tried to get a feel for the available space and measured the width of my front middle seat and found that it's about 39,5cm wide, much like the fridge you are using. So, with the backseats replaced by 2 front seats and the fridge, space can be compared to my front seats with the center seat replaced by a fridge. Sitting in my car, I couldn't help but think that there is not very much room for the passenger's arm, is there? How is this in real life, would it be OK for an adult to sit in the backseat with the fridge so close by? The doorside "armroom" is somewhat spacier because of the gap between the seat and the door, but the fridge is right up against the seat? Alternatively, I could get a narrower fridge, but that comes with less capacity to store goods obviously... Anyway: would love to hear how you feel about this! Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000 |

In short to start with: couldn't be happier.
The seats indeed are indeed touching the coolbox or if not, very close to it. As the original seat box is installed by the Monday morning drunken eye method, in my case the seat box isn't exactly in the middle but just a bit to the right. I thought about putting a new floor in the back so I could dril new holes in it to align the seatbox exactly in the center but left it for now. No one but me notices it and my family is midget sized compared to the average Dutch man. I don't find it cramped for the few times I sat in the back. I don't think my arm is more cramped than in the front of the car. Using a smaller cool box will make it possible to have the seats more away from the door, but I prefer to have a bit more food with me. As it's not a cheap modification feel free to invite yourself over for a coffee and a test fit to see if it suits you and / or your family. |

Oh, maybe I should add, your passengers will have a nice armrest filled with beer!

Thanks mate, sounds good! Luckily, my family is only of average size as well, so that gives us some more room, relatively speaking.
I am happy to hear you are still very pleased with the result, thanks for the update! Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000 |

Fantastic build, great thread!
I'm currently wondering if I can do the same in my Discovery 2. I have a fridge in place of the 1/3 seat, but would like to fut it in the middle with a single seat either side.
