Before its first winter I bought from my LR dealer a set of black Wolf rims with Nokian winter tires which here in Switzerland is marketed an official LR accessory.
Would like to know the load rating of these rims, actually wonder if they are the HD Wolf version or not. I have noticed in the LR Defender brochure that the only Wolf rims that are offered are the white HD versions for the 130. There seems no option anywhere to order Wolf rims for 90/110s.... My black Wolfs have several inscriptions as follows 6 1/2Jx16x20.6 (first two are clear, but not sure what the 20.6 means ??) 27 69P (HL) 2 2160025 and under that 2160026 (this is inside a rectangle) 05 09 (I presume this is the production week/year) Can anyone judge by these if they are HD rims or just standard? I have ordered my 110 XS SW on 'Wolfs' for Sept and it was the HD option with MTR tyre that I ticked £350 extra comes to mind?
I believe they are only available I white though? My understanding was the part number stamped on them read ANR 4583 but that was when they did a tubed and non tubed version ( tubd being ANR 5593) The HD wheels are rated at 2200kg a corner. 1951 80" S1 2.0 1995 110 300TDI 1995 90 300TDI |

Tks Nidge. Still wondering if they are really HD, or if possibly they are a normal load version of those Wolf rims. Hope someone can make that out by one of the inscriptions I put above.

familymad, the actual part number (ANR....) is not printed anywhere on the rims, just the various prints that I put in my first post. I just measured the thickness of the steel at one of the 12 holes and that is 7 to 8mm. Maybe this is an additional indication for them being HD or not.....

I have good news: There is no such things as 'Wolf rims' As you may be aware the military variant of the Defender was code-named WOLF..... Wheel On Left Flank. These came with HD rims and it was the first time this design was used so many people out there nicknamed the wheels 'Wolf wheels' where they are just plain and simple 'Land Rover HD rims'. Hope this reassures you that they are HD, and from what I remember the strength ratting is 2200Kg. As for colour- I would say the normal option is white, but from living in Germany I have notices ALL winter wheels tend to be black (maybe some sort of protective coating?) Glyn   |

I wasn't aware that there was a "standard" and "HD" version of these rims; I'm pretty sure they're just "HD vented steel rims"
If you don't have the HD steel, then you get the plain 90/110 rim without the cooling holes around the edge. |

Wasn't there an article in LRO some years back where they interviewed some/one of the military XD design team, and they said that the wheel on left flank accronym was an urban myth (especially if it's a LHD vehicle, then the spare wheel would be on the RH side), more that the vehicle was a wolf in sheeps clothing.... and even that was thought up by the general public. |

It was interchangeable on all the vehicles- you could even put it in the bonet. You could have even placed one on each side and one on the bonnet. When we went to Poland on exercise from London, we had to change the whole fleet from wheels being on the left to right (that was fun). From the beginning they have said that acronym and it was never disputed in the beginning, it was something that later crept in (maybe some of the team wanted a different name, lol) Glyn |

I got the white "Wolf" rims on my Defender from new from the dealer. I subsequently bought new black "Wolf" rims from Craddocks. They originally couriered out cheaper "Wolf" non genuine rims but I asked for them to replaced as I had paid extra for the real deal! The replacement rims were an exact match for the genuine ones, (same code stamps etc.) and were packed with the box's they (I believe) came from Land Rover in.
I guess I'm trying to say that it does appear that Land Rover will provide genuine black "Wolf" rims! I'm back home later this week so can check what code numbers are stamped on my rims if it would help? 300 TDi 110 CSW |

If they are genuine parts they will be HD regardless of colour.
If they are pattern/aftermarket parts, they could be anything, so caveat emptor. |

I have HD wheels on mine from new, as per earlier poster, I just ticked the box on the options list and got wheels that are both white and black. That is they are white only on the face you see when they ae mounted to the vehicle. The insides are not painted white but have what looks like a black undercoat only.
I'd have to check again now but I was certain that they have the part number stamped on them... |

Think I finally may have found the answer to my own question about HD Wolf wheels steel thickness on LR4x4.com. 8mm thick, so seems LR Switzerland probably sell the real stuff,... as expected really

EricV - Happy to share findings - as you are aware I'm running another thread under Wheels and Tyres. I can find no evidence of a rim with a rating of 2200kg - but would love to hear if yours are.
One aspect that I am wondering about - 8mm thicker steel??? - Can you check your rims and see any part that looks as though it's 8 mm thick? Look at the thickness through the bolt holes? As you have tyres on it will be difficult to see the edge of the rims - 8mm is quite a thickness! |
