Christmas has come early Laughing

Get ready for those dark nights. I have been doing a bit of arm wrestling with German David and in this case David lost. I am not going to mention any, errr underhand tricks that I might have had to use Whistle Please remember I am still working on my Yorkshire citizenship so underhand tactics are permitted Thumbs Up


Nolden Headlights

Performance (low / high beam): 32W / 39W
Voltage: 9-32V
Lumen calculated: 1880lm / 2400lm
Measured lumen: 1550lm / 1700lm
Reference number (per headlight): 12.5
Fixing Scheme: PAR56
Approval: ECE, SAE
Windshield: UV-resistant, hard-coated polycarbonate
Housing: made in Alumium-pressure casting, light, corrosion-free
Water resistant: as IP6K9K standard, documented through 480 hours salt spray test


The measured light output is higher then most of the calculated lumen of the other LED headlights.

With an IP rating of IP6K9K it has the highest IP rating of LED headlights.

We use these headlights on one of our vehicles and they are better then the other headlights we have tried.


Normal price is £925 however with a bit of arm wrestling we have managed to get a special forum price.

Three plus sets for £550/set + £15 carriage if required

Six plus sets for £525/set + £15 carriage if required



These prices are for two headlights and include UK VAT at 20%

Took Brendan up on this offer and the Noldens arrived quickly and well packed. Bow down I took the opportunity today to fit them along with the new bezels from Nakatananga ( supplied by Brendan). Just been for a run in the dark to set them up and wow are they bright or what!! Was impressed with the whiteness of the light as well as the illumination in high beam compared to my other LED headlights. Apologies for the quality of the pics as I took them with my crapberry.

Now I just need to get around to fitting the 20" light bar I got from rustyboxx last month and I am sorted for frontal illumination. :thumbsup:

Here is a link to a comparison test we did between Nolden and Speaker EVO. Light output strength/quality of the two is basically at par, so it is up to your individual choice based on visuals really. In below thread you will find plenty of frontal view pictures of the Nolden, including with low and high beam on.

Those look great Brian, how do they compare to the Speakers? I was considering picking up a set of Speaker2 lights when we are in the US over Christmas as I'm not 110% convinced with the low beam light spread with the Trucklites but might reconsider.

^^ They are non adjustable. Either LHD or RHD. I doubt that you will be able to by LHD versions in the USA.
Further, if you buy them in the USA, you would have to make sure that they do carry the proper E marking on the lens for use in Europe. USA type approval is DOT, not E+country code, so possibly the ones sold in the USA market may not have that E marking. Even if it is the same lamp, without E marking they would be illegal for road use in Europe. Better safe than sorry, so would check.

There are ECE compliant LHT & RHT versions, these are the euro compliant versions which are available ex stock from JW Speaker

John, they are without a doubt brighter than my first generation speakers. The light spread is as good and the high beam wins hands down over the speakers. Why not have a drive of mine in the dark so you can judge for yourself??
As I said my speakers are the first generation and I would be surprised if the new evo 2 headlights were not as bright as the Noldens.

As Brian mentioned we are currently on our travels for a week.

As a company Barbara and I are not tied to any manufacturer but look to source what we believe is the best kit available and we import supplies into the UK from various countries ourselves. Who will be making the best LED headlights in a few years time? Who knows, but we will keep an open mind.

In my opinion the Nolden headlights are tbe best LED headlights which are road legal and currently available in the UK. We have standard LR candles fitted to our red 110, Speaker 8700, fitted to black 110 and Noldens fitted to our white 90. Last night driving on Belgium minor roads I needed the assistance of the Lazer ST4's mounted on the bumper to boost the output of the 8700's. In the white 90 I would not have needed extra lights.

Light output of the Noldens is 1700 lumens with an IP rating of 6K9K compared to the light output of the latest JWS Evo 2 of 1150 lumens and IP rating of 67.

So the Noldens are still brighter and more water proof then the new Speaker 8700 Evo 2.

To date I have not heard of any condensation or corrosion issue with Noldens unlike some other brands. I have heard of three 'issues' with Noldens headlights. Two sets apparently did not work! The vehicle wiring was incorrect, with reversed polarity on the wiring. No problem with standard filament bulbs but LEDs will not work. Swop leads over and Noldens worked fine. Other 'issue' was a Mercedes G Wagon where the auto bulb failure circuit kicked in. Resistor in the circuit and clearing the ECU of the fault codes and absolutely fine. Back up from Noldens technician was first class. To the best of my knowledge Nolden headlights have had no failures to date, be it condensation, corrosion or lights not working and am confident of good backup from the Nolden folks in Germany.

As for the price, the GBP has increased against the euro by about 15% whereas the USD has basically been stable against the GBP. We have very recently been able to negotiate a much better price on Nolden lights due to buying them in larger quantities, so have been able to pass this price advantage on.

Eric, the measured lumen output of the Noldens is measured in a light tunnel in Germany to the best of my knowledge.

The Speaker 8700 used to quote a raw and effective lumen output, both figures being a calculation.

If you look at the JWS website now under terms and definitions you will see that JWS effective lumen output is a measurement by a photo metric device

So both figures are now measurements and so no longer comparing apples and pears.

I can only assume that both companies have used industry standards for measuring the light output of their respective headlights.

So on measured light output and IP rating the Noldens are brighter and more water proof then the Speaker 8700 Evo 2

Now if you look at the Speaker website the Evo2 fits the 2007-2014 Jeep JK. Whereas it may physically fit there are major issues with delay going from high beam to low beam and in flickering. Whilst that is not an issue with Defenders, I find it odd that an American light company can not make a headlight to work perfectly with the current American iconic 4x4 or the Jeep.


Now this thread was about Nolden headlights and I am perfectly happy for the Noldens to be compared with other LED head lights.

Currently in my opinion the Noldens are the best road legal LED headlight available in the UK when you consider light output, IP rating, warranty issues and current price.

It is perfectly possible that my opinion might change in the future as LED headlights are changing rapidly. We are not tied to any manufacturer and seek to find the best equipment in the market.

Yes we sell equipment, however we do not just rely on manufacturers figures. We actually USE the equipment on our own vehicles and make up our own mind about the equipment.
