When I took the hose off there was strong suction. When they guy at the garage pumped the brake pedal then started the engine with the brake depressed he said the brake pedal was sinking. He also tested the servo by placing a hose from some wacky device with smoke in which told him the servo wasn't losing pressure.
He's asked me to take it back first thing in the morning to "get to the bottom of it".... |

Good news update! As recommended by Munch we checked the bearings and re-bled. There was a little play in the back bearings so we nipped them up. Next we re-bled the system. Air was found in two calliper joins. Test drive and hey presto... braking is now good, no more spongey first press of the pedal. Further bonus.... the brake pad rattle has all but gone. It appears the play in the rear bearings enabled the pads to be forced back further into the calliper allowing them to rattle. Something to bear in mind if you're suffering from pad rattle rather than doing what I did... buying new callipers and pads.
Thanks to all for help and suggestions... very much appreciated. |

I was about to post some similar symptoms of the brake not biting right away after you first start the engines and have to do a few pumps to get the system operating normally.
If it helps any, I just had my wheel bearings re-greased and changed out discs as mine were worn about 5mm inward already. The vehicle also drowned and was resurrected. Water in the cabin was up until just below the bottom of the radio. So I still check all of the items mentioned then? |

I have a spongy pedal for the 1st press after turning on full lock. I also suffer from rattling pads.
