Aftermarket stereo upgrade
Hi Everyone

I'm new to defender ownership, so am learning loads from the forum (thanks, very helpful). Hopefully you can help me again!

I had to change the battery in my 2010 defender, and the standard head-unit that was fitted, is not the original one which fitted to the vehicle when it left the factory. Subsequently my stereo is now locked (note to self, always check serial number on stereo rather than accept what is in the owners handbook).

Any way, rather than pay 18 to the main dealer, I decided to upgrade the head unit to a natty little alpine unit. Reserved it online and nipped down to Halfords to pick it up. I asked for a corresponding ISO lead as well, which was when the Halfords chap spooked me with the fact that it's quite possible my defender is fitted with a OE amplifier, and if I plug in an aftermarket stereo with ISO leads, then there is a good chance I'll blow the amplifier and be landed with a hefty bill from Land Rover to get rectified? He believed it was common on Range Rovers etc, so likely to be the same on the defender.

I'm proficient with car audio, but am not familiar with a lot of the quirks associated with owning a defender, so am concerned that swapping out the standard stereo for something aftermarket, could land me with an unexpected bill. I see that loads of owners on the forum have swapped to aftermarket units, so is it just a case of plug and play, or is there some truth in what I've been told?

Thanks for your help.

Defenders only have an amplifier if they also have the subwoofer which is mounted on the back of the cubby box. Thumbs Up Tom

ISO wiring on a 2010 it's only 2012 onwards where you need an adaptor.
You should find it's plug and play.
