Problems listening to music via USB
Hi All

Probably a numty question but.....

I have transferred a playlist from iTunes to a USB stick. So far so good...

I put it into the USB slot on the Alpine unit and selected USB audio with the green button.

"No file" is the message that comes up.

I have looked at the file type - MPEG-4 audio, that iTunes used by default.

What am I doing wrong? 1970 Series 2A 88"

Not an Alpine unit but with my Defender and Company Car on a USB stick or memory card you have to access the media on the stick or card via the menu 'Flat Directories' to get access to the music. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Files are most likely protected for copyright / piracy reasons.
They'll only play via a synced Apple device.
Unless they are not encrypted, AAC or .MP3.
If your music was iTunes purchased it will be most certainly be protected files.

I think the files need to be MP3.
I had a similar problem getting music files to play on another car.
I ended up using windows media player to convert the files to MP3 format, copied onto a memory stick and it worked fine.
I'm currently using this same memory stick in my new Defender with no problems.
The only thing I don't like is it sticks out in the dash, it's going to get clouted sooner rather than later and probably damage the radio.

Some can support AAC and MP3, generally MP3 is the most widely covered format.

I had to convert all my iTunes to mp3. There's an export function on iTunes but it still took hours... Defender Puma 2.2 XS 90

Thanks for all replies.

For now, I have connected the iPod but will try again when I have a spare evening. 1970 Series 2A 88"

Interested in the answer to this. My USB memory played fine in my previous Kenwood unit but will only play about 3 albums on the standard MY14 XS Alpine unit. I'm too busy to find out why and am playing the iphone into it via USB or Bluetooth depending on how far I'm going. Cheers, Guy.
