Having driven most LRs and currently owning a Puma I really don't think there is much this side of a N/A diesel van, bus or lorry which I could outrun. If I do overtake or out gun someone at the lights its either because they were not trying, or that they let me. I certainly don't think its down to the Defender. In fact even in my Navara D40 (which is way quicker than a Defender) it was hard work getting away from lights against most normal cars if they decided to give it some too. [Quote]
I used to have a D40 Navara (Aventura Top spec Snugtop inc.) Is quicker than the Puma but who really wants that in a 4x4? But it was lovely to travel in better than many cars but at the end of the day it was a pick-up and it was too expensive and uncapable to be used for off-road good for road towing and carrying weights in the back (Same as 110 and 130) Also had no high/low box just electronic switching 4wd. Plus once i just opened one of the rear doors on it (was Grey metaclic) a bit close to the hedge and a small twig / stick scratched the paint! Won't get that with the Landy and seeing as the D40 cost nearly £30,000 and my Puma was £15,495 (two years old 12K) I know witch i'm happy with both hav good and bad points both good vehicles. D40 comfort & power with 90 off-road performance looks ect now theres a thought  |

G Wagon (or G class in RHD)
 AMG great but the oil burner is better just re launched in UK how do I know caus I have ordered one to replace a FFRR

I really liked my Navara, but after 12 days in the dealers in three months, plus about £500 lost earnings havign to run back and forth to collect/drop off I thought enough was enough. Would have been great if it wasn't such a heap!
* New clutch at 8k miles, 2nd plus flywheel and thrust bearings at 12k miles (when I bought it), clutch was going by the time I sold her at 18k! * Doors would randomly unlock (known fault), * Sunroof popped up and refused to lower (I only just managed to lower it by forcing a Star driver in the Alan head and manually winding it down - some dick had rounded off the Alan bolt), * Two new injectors (needed another two but dealer refused as it had cost them too much already on warranty work), * Rusting on roof by aerial and on inside of fuel filler flap (Nissan claimed it was stone chip damage), * Something done to the rear axle (can't remember what), * heating/aircon needed repair work as it was noisey and had faults * Other stuff which i have forgotten about. Each fault took numerous arguements and diagnostic trips to get replaced. I have never come as close to punching someone as I did the little tw~t on the service desk who started serving other customers before me, despite havign been stood there an hour waiting for him to return, when i pointed it out he walked off, returned with his manager and said that I was being abusive and it was not within his job description to accept abuse. In fact I was delayed once because all of their pillar lifts had been condemmed. They were only bolted to the floor and had no foundations, consequently when one collapsed under a Navara they had to be locked down 
Morale of the story is I would never touch a Nissan again in my life and make sure everyone I know and every forum i go on knows how bad they are! Cheers H |

I find I have more cars try to overtake me in the 110 than ever before, yet i don't drive any slower! Suprised a few coming up the M1 on Sunday, until I hit about 80-85mph and suddenly got a misfire and coudln't continue to overtake - I guess that is the speed restrictor cutting in |

As much as I love Defenders, I too would have to say just about any car will overtake it with ease. Even the Puma. However, there are drivers who do not realise they might need to downshift to pass, especially going up a big hill. So if the LR driver has shifted down and is giving it everything they've got, it's quite possible some cars will end up having difficulties.

I recently done a 600 mile round trip in my 90 around the scottish islands and i couldn't have picked a worse car to do it in.. the defender follows ruts in the road and handles like a duvet with a spacehopper on each corner. On several occasions the steering wheel was almost torn from my grasp and i nearly ended up as part of the scenery. Anyone in a sports car could beat a defender on a B or A road, no problem.
I once had a tiff on my Honda CBR with a 911 on a private stretch of the A9 and i went past him at over 140mph and as i looked at him as i went past he was tapping his fingers on the wheel to his favourite CD and enjoying his cigar, i was getting buffeted about and had to concentrate like a perjurer. It is not how fast it goes but how it goes fast?? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS.. |

I just completed a 3000km trip around turkey with the landie 110 full of goodies and family and felt more relaxed than than my beemer I used to have and my son does not get car sick. Puma 110 SW 90 V8 SOFT TOP |

I just got back from a 3000+ mile round trip to Romania, and the 110 handled much better in the twisty mountain roads than I ever would have expected. To my surprise I was able to overtake quite a few smaller cars, they just seemed to run out of "oomph" going up the steeper hills.
It actually handled better on the way back, after we loaded it up in the back and on the roof. |

I just went down to my local shop and managed to pass three cyclists, two pedestrians and a little old lady with a trolley bag and a pekinese in tow! Oh! Think I ran over a snail too!
Who really cares? I just love driving it!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
