yuup, its rather loud and very annoying.
did a little more playing today and noticed it doesn't need to be under load. so its definitely at certain rev range. doesn't matter what gear or speed, video was shot at roughly 5mph! when driving in 5th at 65 no booming at that speed, let foot off go pedal and let the engine slow it down to 40mph as the revs drop the booming starts. so it booms when accelerating and decelerating! removed cyclone breather from air intake incase there was back pressure in the air intake, nope no different. another go with air pipe off turbo (intake side) massive sucking noise but booming still there. so im ruling out induction noises! thinking about investigating engine mounts next. as this problem came on gradually and not suddenly! Engine and gearbox mounts are a good shout.
Also check your exhaust rubbers and what they attach to. |

I still have this awful booming noise under load and decided to have another crack at finding what the hell is causing it!
removed ALL associated pipe work up to turbo to eliminate vibration from it. noise still there just moved to turbo inlet!! finally admitted defeat and took it to a garage!. timing is fine engine revs freely, no smoke, no stutters or hesitation. the wastage appears to be seized closed!! so thats my next job freeing that up. the theory is gate stuck closed(more likely not tightly closed) exhaust gasses have nowhere to go and building up pressure! can anyone confirm my theory or am i just clutching at straws!! Be honest i dont think the waste gate would cause that and from a seized waste gate you would get over boosting .
Waste gate can be hard to diagnose, because they dont move much at all when revved stationery as the engine isnt under any load people often think they move a lot , but revving stationery it might only move 1-3mm on the rod didnt you have the head off a while ago ? |

There on quite a strong spring ! Normally you need to use a lever to try them
Is all the pipe from filter to turbo standard ? |

yep all standard.this noise is definitely coming from the inlet plenum chamber. My 109 thread

![]() Ok so you have done New head New centre exhaust New engine and gearbox rubbers Checked timing New exhaust rubbers Cleaned intercooler and checked turbo pipework Just trying to think what is left to do or look at ![]() Only thing I can think of is that your exhaust is resonating with a body panel at a certain rev range.
