Cold weather & tdci doors

Not that I'm trying to be pessimistic but I'm aware winter is never too far away and I'm about to replace the doors on my 110 (td5). I'm wondering if all you tdci owners experience the same problems in the cold weather with the central locking not working and the doors not closing? I think I'm talking myself into buying tdci doors...

Only if not given basic maintanance,Clean out the locks with clutch/brake/contact cleaner DO NOT USE WD OR ANY OTHER "RELEASE AGENT".Then use a suitable lock grease like graphite (which is a dry powder),I use lithium/white grease inna aerosol, coz it helps keep the sh*t out,DO NOT USE WD OR ANY OTHER "RELEASE AGENT".Defender locks are very exposed to the weather and road cr*p so suffer more than most,WD

lubricates the lock for about 10 seconds then starts attracting more dirt.Also clean the door rubbers with mild soap then treat them with a quality trim protectant, Gummi Pfledge is top stuff,this does 2 things protects the rubber from rotting and stops the rubber absorbing moisture which will then prevent your doors from freezing shut.

and don't forget to use silicone spray on the rubbers so that the doors don't freeze shut

Last winter was pretty mild and my doors froze shut a couple of times. Aerosol white grease and some silicone rubber lubricant did the trick!

Just make sure it isn't a scented Silicone Spray or is a smell you can live with.

I bought mine in a hurry as it was on offer and then sprayed one half of a door rubber with the most acrid sickly sweet bubblegum smell I have ever smelt. Lasted for weeks

DONT use silicon! If your defender ever needs paintwork it will make a mess.
