I store my maggi on a flat surface when not on the rack although ive been told they can be stored vertically
The mattress can be removed easily but i tend to air the tent on nice days They are expensive for what they are but so are tentipis but very easy to live with I would recommend an awning for a cooking seating area I took mine to the arctic in 2013 it worked perfectly although I did insulate it Friday had a huge thunderstorm in chamonix whilst camping and we stayed completely dry the heavy rain sounds nice on the lid You can feel the tent on the roof on the bendy roads Another advantage is that sleeping bags can be placed in the tent Not really any down sides to the tents, they come up for sale from time to time the only thing I'd be concerned about would be any damage to the shell I have a small version about 55kgs the medium and large are heavier and aimed more at the American market  |

My thoughts were to empty the contents leaving just the shell on the rack on a permanent basis and could open it up to air from time to time. I don't know how the shell and metal fasteners would fair in the UK weather 365 days a year.
I have a foxwing and so the idea that all sleeping accommodation can be kept in the shell which would leave the truck to carry only food and other necessary supplies also appeals. |

I have owned several over the years and have always left mine on the roof, mounted on Rhino-Rack roof bars, with no adverse affects eg significant deterioration. They do need airing from time to time on a warm day and hosing down when you clean the vehicle. I never found any problems with their weight.
However I have recently ordered a similar hard shell tent after quite an intensive review, a James Baroud Evasion Explorer, which I believe offers more advantages and is more up to date in its design/capabilities |

i have had mine on the 130 for 4 years never had a problem with any thing no damp or raining in RLD fabricator of Hidden Winch Mount for D3/4 roof racks jerry can holders CB aerial mounts and much more and agent for Helsport Tents and gear

I have left mine on for many many months in all weathers, and no issues. We also tend to remove the mattress, and store it under our bed (in house) during the winter, but only as to keep it aired. Great bits of kit

Mine stays on permanently as well. I take the bedding out during the winter (full sheet/duvet etc. - don't use sleeping bags
 ) but leave the mattress in place. Not had any issues with damp at all - and that's in five years.
No issues with the weight either - and it's fitted to a hannibal roof rack along with a MSS store chest. Tony |

Mine is on for +2 years now. One mod I would advice: I stuck some bent aluminium with silicone glue under the tighners. They tend to eat into the shell's corners if you don't.

I've got the Maggi Grand Tour Small. Great tent, very comfortable. Not much noise on the motorway and handling OK after installing Air Lift 1000 on rear springs to stop the weight of tent, roof rack and camping kit pushing the back end down too far.

Thanks Eric, I like them too. They match the roof and because I live in town it makes the truck look less aggressive. They're pretty good lights too! Much better than the land rover accessory spots that were there before.

Back on topic... The Hannibal roof rack fittings were shockingly bad. Most of the stainless bolts cross threaded and then broke on removal. Had to replace all of them. Not acceptable on such an expensive rack. Small Maggi does fit neatly on though.

You over tightened the stainless bolts thats why the threads pulled not cross threaded.
