I would also check for any oil leaks aroung the high pressure fuel pump joint to the timming casing and where the water pump mounting gasket joins the cylinder block.
This in turn feeds high pressure oil to the brake vacuum pump.

A good wash off my be needed to fully trace the leak. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

Do you have excess crank case pressure?

I have heard of an example of a low mileage 2.4 puma that was blowing oil out of the plastic cover (in the front timing chain cover) and the fault was found to be excess crank case pressure. The engine was blowing a lot when the oil filler cap was removed with the engine running. The car had only been used on frequent short trips and it was though that this cause the rings not to seal correctly due to carbon build up. The solution at the time was a full strip down and clean but I would have tried some magic potion and a good thrashing of the motor...... 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

That describes it exactly! The car only does short trips and it was again the plastic bung / plate causing the problem. My mate at the garage also mentioned the excessive pressure when he removed the breather pipe.

Can anyone recommend a good magic potion / flush and what is a good run - motorways or just get the revs up for a certain amount of time??

Another thought - would the dreaded EGR add to the coking up problem?? Especially with my short trips?

Injector seals gone.

Would a failed injector seal cause back pressure? Or are you saying a potential leak from the injector seal?

It was leaking from the bung again so have sealed it back down and given the engine a good flush through and new oil. To be honest it does very short trips so I can't help feeling it may be to do with this so keeping my fingers crossed!

I have a leak in my vacuum pump seal (high pressure oil spray on the underside of the bonnet on the passengers side??? ) Can anyone tell me if this is a big/expensive job to fix? Do I need to get it fixed straight away?

Yes they do cause back pressure and oil consumption.

if the bung has been out a couple of times , maybe the flat cover is out of shape a bit , we have had to put a small bead of sealer round the seal a few times to get them to seal

I can't include a pic.
So I think there's a leak from the cover fuel pump (LR004639) on the cover cylinder front (LR004403)
