Hi Gavin, are they missing on yours or some other problem?

You push the bit of the rivet with the legs through the door card into the door frame (requires a wiggle, of the rivet).

Then push the pin into (but not through) the rivet to lock the legs in place.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Door Studs
There is a small dowel in the centre that you need to push through, be careful not to lose it. When you re-fit them, you just push the dowel back in to spread the clip out.

That's right Martin they were missing from the door.

Thanks gents - it wasn't clear from the photo that those pins could be pushed through the rivet head.
