United Kingdom 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Orkney Grey
Finally got around to finishing painting the crossmember, it looks as it should now. Also put a new sticker over my spare wheel cover today. Rather than advertise a Land Rover specialist in Devon where I got the truck from, I'll advertise the Highland 4x4 Response group of whom I'm part of.

After reading a recent thread about repainting side steps I decided to do something about mine. A local firm had offered to powder coat them as long as I rubbed them down and got any surface rust off.

So after an hour of swearing and several bloody knuckles later I managed to get both sides off only to discover a split along the underside and the metal is very thin where they have started to rot through.

I think there shot! Time to buy new as they are not that expensive, go for the stainless steel ones, then you will not have that problem again.

Personally I don't find there to be an issue with climbing into the truck but for shorter passengers they are a must (especially for women wanting to keep their dignity). Might have to wait a bit though, planning on getting cruise control fitted in a few weeks from Tim at Mobile Centre. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

Milestone reached
Well after less than 18 months of ownership I have managed 20000 miles in my Landy. Quite an achievement I think, she is my daily drive and I have a smile everytime I get inside. Anyway I thought I'd share the details of some of the work and additions that have taken place over the last 18 months.

2 x BF Goodrich rear tyres
Repainted rear crossmember
Stainless Steel replacement bolt kit from Brendan
New genuine LR A bar
Removed old rusty side steps
Mantec swing away wheel carrier
Trans K9 storage drawer
Additional fuse box
MudStuff cubby box switch panel
Put in wiring ready for rear work light
CB radio in MudStuff puma dash panel
LED roof and dash beacons

For me owning a Defender is a hobby as well as a car. I'm constantly juggling a list of improvements I want to make. Upcoming mods include:

Rock sliders
Heated front screen (when the current chipped one either cracks or fails at the MOT)
Soundproofing
Find some beading to cover the rivets on the sliding rear windows.
Overhaul the suspension system as it's starting to feel a bit tired.
Steering guard

Fortunately she has been fairly reliable (touch wood) although the engine is sounding a little rough at the moment but still returning 36mpg on motorway runs. A couple of niggles such as several replacement windscreens from some unrepairable stone chips and it being quite heavy on brake pads but nothing I can't live with. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

Hi Josh .. How did you get on with the wind deflectors when you fitted them? Did they make a big difference? 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

I like them. They have come in handy with being able to have the window slightly open when it's raining to prevent windows fogging up. I have also found that they mean I can have the window open a bit when driving to allow air in the cab (not got air con). I guess the only criticism I have of them (I've got the climair versions) is that they are slightly tight in the window channel at the top of the window frame so the motor does strain a little bit when closing the last bit. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

So a quick update, new shocks and springs for the rear of the 90 turned up so had them fitted at a local garage. Would have done it myself but just don't have the time at the moment. I went for Britpart Heavy duty rear springs and Koni Heavy Track shocks. It gives a little rise on the previous height but more importantly it levels the truck up as there was a lean to towards the rear passenger corner.

I also gave the truck a clean so it's looking good now.

I have also changed the switch for the LED beacon. I have used the MUD carling switch panel. It's designed for the genuine LR cubby box so doesn't fit snugly in the Exmoor Trim version so I'll fill the sides with some black foam but overall I think it looks really good.

The previous rears (General Grabber TR's) were in need of replacement earlier this year so had them done but the fronts have plenty of tread left so couldn't justify replacing them at the moment. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

Been a while since I've updated this thread and today brings sad news - it's got a dent in it! Last night in the widely reported hurricane strength winds a number of tiles and stones were dislodged from a roof and one of them landed on the roof of the truck. Cue a large dent, several scratches and lots of swear words! Looks like an insurance job with a new roof.

Needless to say I'm pretty angry but at the end of the day nobody was hurt. Further winds are expected here over the weekend although not the 100mph ones experienced in the early hours of this morning. Worryingly there is the potential for a more severe storm due to make landfall on Thursday. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

Hi Pickles,

The house is built on the site of the ruin of a Scottish Castle. The ruins lie behind the house. The castle was built in the 14th century. The house was built in 1873 and even Winston Churchill has stayed there. Around 1970 the house was turned into flats. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

It looks magnificent. What's it like inside,...Plenty of period stuff, or is it all modern?
Is this where you live?
We have nothing like this in Aus, because we're not "old" enough, but I was born in the U.K., so I love it.
Pickles.
