Looks like my 14 defender is going into the dealers then, as I have the very same problem when I back off the revs and then accelerate the engine misfires/coughs. Definitely not a flat spot, more of a misfire.
Only 4 months old and has 5000 miles on the clock.

Mine still does exactly the same - most noticeable round town in 3rd - often if you've backed off the gas very slightly - just feels like a instant single misfire or cough - no faults have ever showed up on code reader.....

That's the same with me - not something I can illustrate to the dealer.

I had it plugged in and nothing apparent on the fault reader. Had an update done (this time last year) but didn't cure it.

Seems more common now.....2012 15.3k.......

sometimes you lift off pedal then back on you get a delay and then your off again

is it like that ?

Pretty much....had this issue since it was 6 months.

Now it seems like it happens without lifting off/backing off accelerator....

Do you think egr valve? On very new vehicles?

Mine too, around 2000 revs often in 2nd or 3rd gear, it can cough and can cause a little kangarooing 110 Hardtop

I have had this issue as well - MY13 with 6k on the clock. As described just a single cough when going off and back on the throttle.

I did notice it disappears when I use premium diesel but comes straight back when i go back to standard fuel.

Yep, got exactly the same issue with my 8 month old, 13MY, 9000 miles on the clock, usually in 2nd or 3rd, you back off the throttle in traffic then go to pull away and it mis-fires for a second, then picks up. Mine is booked in to local LR dealer next week - for some reason they want the car for 2 full days..

Hi

If its what im thinking you are finding/feeling this is part of the mapping design Landrover gave the car and is as intended from Landrover.

When you back off 100% on the throttle (total foot off the throttle) it will do the "flat spot", ?
When you back off 90-95% or simlar as an example and (NOT bring your foot fully off the throttle) it wont do it at all and accellerates smoothly ?

Try it!

If this is the very same as you all mention we do deal with this in our remap in most cases as we dont like it either as it can make for a weird sensation drive especially round towns and roundabouts if a lot of on and off the throttle action is used.

Pete, thanks for the info, I have tried different driving styles but with no apparent effect, it is very hard to predict when it is going to miss-fire, some days hardly at all, other days often.

And this isn't just a bit of a flat spot, it is a momentary total loss of power and then instant full power - a bit like a petrol car with an ignition fault would do.

I've had the car from new, this issue wasn't present for the first 5000 miles, then slowly developed. I agree that it seems to be mapping related, does the map 'learn' or is it fixed? Could it have 'learnt' a bad habit?!

Driving with the drivers window open, you can hear through the engine air intake something changing, sounds like a valve opening and closing (I assume this is the EGR valve?), when the car miss-fires this sound goes all weird for a moment.. 5 Land Rovers and a Corsa!

Try the throttle test I mentioned, that may hilight to me what its doing. Once you have mastered how to make it do it you can repeate the same results constantly I have found.

EG slow speed, poss 3rd or 2nd gear with a medium to light ish driving throttle, and then with the fully off for a second or so and then back on throttle test. Same again with your foot not not fully off.

When it does its almost feels like a very laggy momentry pause in power delivery before the car pulls away hard again.

The ecu is adaptive and their has been an update in the past so this could possibily explain why you have not noticed it before. It is also one of those things that once its done it once and you notice it, you will notice it every time therafter as it does it.
