After recently fitting a new turbo and intercooler, I'm thinking of refitting my RAI.
However, since I took it off in the first place because it was restricting airflow, I'm now thinking of adding an extra air intake forward of the wheel arch. It should be simple as a hole at that position is in exactly the right place to run a flexible tube to the front/bottom of the airbox. It would barely be a foot long So, can anyone suggest some ideas for fittings for the tube to go into the airbox at one end and the wing at the other? Obviously I want it to look as OEM from the outside as possible Cheers for ideas Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Surely that defeats the object of a RAI? Cheers, David

top of the wing where the blank for the heater intake is, unless yours is a left hooker?

Er... I was hoping DIMyself wouldn't be so painful I've actually found some 80mm tubing with a lip at one end (will go to the wing) but I want a nice airtight seal at the airbox end. I also need some kind of external cover (one I can take off to block it). The raised wing top covers on eBay are the right shape but I can only find cheapo ones out of crap plastic... I was thinking along the same lines, but merely putting an access hole through the bottom of the plastic jobby, in line with the wing vent and fitting something like this

just realised how snotty that sounded, sorry! wing top is a good idea. you could team it up with a snow cowl for a quality finish Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Okay - after an age of searching I've bought a couple of these in 86mm and 114mm:
http://www.visaton.de/de/chassis_zubehoer/zubehoer/gitter8es.html I may need to change the mesh to get better air flow but hopefully they'll help the inlet look tidy The Ramair hose is 80mm and is the biggest that will fit neatly into the airbox at the bottom - it has a lip to keep it in the wing: http://ramair-filters.co.uk/ducting-automo...d-cap.html - still haven't figured out how to seal it into the airbox though. Perhaps if I cut the hole small enough I can wedge it in between the ribs. May take a while as the hose is coming from your end (hmmm - does that sound bad?) Easiest way would be to get a fabricator to source a length of 80mm stainless steel O/D pipe and get him to put a flange on it. You could then gasket seal and bolt the flange to the airbox.
Just a question but how are you going to fair TUV time with this? Alternatively find a decent plumbers as 80mm is a common size used in domestic plumbing and see what they may have. I wish I could find a fabricator here that would do it (even better for a sensible price) but you remember the trouble I had just trying to get my bike forks welded...
The TÜV (for once) shouldn't have a problem with it - there's only going to be a "speaker cover" on the wing and cutting a hole in the airbox isn't a crime. According to Pete, with the factory map back on, the 110 will be back to a dreary 122PS again Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
