Drip from rear diff
Hi

I have a drip from the rear diff, looks like its coming from the bolt? not sure I have a jug under it collecting the fluid to see what colour it is..

Any ideas?

Check your axle breathers they are probably blocked.

Also may be overfull of oil and have what looks like a warn input seal.

Check the breather first though Thumbs Up

Check your axle breather is not blocked as this will cause oil to leak when the diff warms up and creates pressure build up.

I changed my pinion oil seal twice before I worked out my breather was blocked ! 2005 Td5 90 XS

If yours is the same as mine the breather pipe comes off of the top of the diff and goes to the offside rear wheel arch and is clipped up high to keep it out of the water when wading, I just unclipped mine and blew down it to check it. Mine was blocked with road dirt at this end and was easily cleaned out. 2005 Td5 90 XS

pinion diff seal, easy to change, once you have undone the nut! which is not so easy without impact tools if on the ground due to slack in transmission.

seal has gone either way so will need changing but as above when you change it check the breather. you can do the latter by just undoing the banjo fitting on the top of the axle with the black pipe coming off (its on passenger side) and check pipe is not blocked, banjo is not blocked and that hole into axle is free from corrosion. Cheers

td5 is not on the diff casing Cheers

If I undo the seal and replace the seal on the diff will all the fluid come out? sorry for the dumb questions..

Are theses the breather pipes in this video ( at 6.45 near the end) ?

no it wont.

i suggest buying two seals, in case you damage the first one getting it in.

top up after with EP90 to level plug hole on flat surface. Cheers

Agree it could be the pinion diff - but it's not that clear from those photos where the oil is actually coming from.

Before doing something that may be unecessary, clean the whole area to remove all traces of oil and then identify precisely where the oil leak is.

As above really. Checking your breather pipes are clear is free to do and very unobtrusive, to do a pinion seal is a bit more involved and can cause damage if not done correctly.

Clean it up, check your breather and oil levels and then see what happens, I wouldn't be surprised if it is just the breathers blocked Thumbs Up

Hi,

My 110 is also displaying a weep from the oil plug.

Was planning on finding the breather and checking if it's clear or not.

I have heard there is a mod to extend these breathers into the engine bay, is that correct and is there a kit you can buy to do this work?
