well after full handbrake strip down, im still getting a banging from it. it cured it for about 30 mins but its back again.
so as ive got a whole drum unit off my old td5 disco that never knocked, im gonna see if it fits. hopefully that should sort it. im edging closer to an x brake at this rate. My 109 thread my youtube channel |

lost servo assistance completely whilst pulling up to a t junction tonight. not pleasant! had a quick look under bonnet, V pump doesn't sound any different, and couldn't hear sucking air when i switched it off. i suspect the return valve may be shot! got a spare one if it is but just cannot be arsed to do it tonight!!! In process of replacing head gasket, while its off i have drained and flushed all coolant from engine rad and heater. removed all breather pipe work, intercooler, oil cyclone thingy! and given everything a thorough clean.
replaced a broken air filter mount tested break vacuum hose, thats ok! ordered replacement vac pump, easier to change whilst everything is apart! im just waiting for the vac pump then i can start putting it all back together!! also fitted new air and oil filter. hopefully this will cure very loud exhaust like droning and coolant use!! here are a few pics along the way head off Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge gasket blowing slightly around C4 Click image to enlarge deck and head cleaned Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge intercooler out for clean Click image to enlarge other bits getting a clean up Click image to enlarge My 109 thread my youtube channel |

STILL waiting for new vac pump to arrive !
Easier fitting with air box bracket off, but that is held on by head bolts!! So done as much as I could without torquing head! shiny head gasket Click image to enlarge sequence marked on bolts for ease Click image to enlarge rocker cover is obviously not fitted! just resting there My 109 thread my youtube channel |

well its all back together and running again! wont really know how succeful the gasket swap was til ive stuck some miles on it!.
new vac pump sorted brakes so that's a positive, BUT i still have the droning noise at higher revs!! Im hoping I may have the answer to that! since putting it all back together the airbox is rattling on tick over! so after playing around with it briefly i notice the whole noise under the bonnet goes a lot quieter when i hold the airbox at different angles! So I'm hoping there is a leak in the air intake side that could be causing this awful droning!! My 109 thread my youtube channel |

If the hand brake is knocking as you slow down to a stop, slacken off the adjuster a bit, it means the shoes are grabbing the drum and causing back lash in the transfer box.
Hopefully should cure it. 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html 2014 Discovery 4 SE Tech Instagram @the110camper |
