In the 80's, myself and my (now ex) wife were leaving our new house on a large new build development when the removal truck we were following stopped, having missed a turn and quickly reversed into us, the rather miffed driver and his mate were a bit annoyed at the stupidity of what he had done. We exchanged names and address etc. As he walked back to his cab my wife said "and look where your going next time" (urgh, a few words that were never going to be well received). As we got into the car and I closed my door the driver turned on his heels and I wound my window down, he punched me full on in the face without warning, I got out and took hold of him. As he swore and shouted, my new next door neighbour, who I hadn't met yet, ran over and produced his Police Warrant Card announcing that he was an officer and had seen what happened. I looked at his card and announced that I had one of them too! As the driver was carted off for assault, he announced that his mate couldn't drive the truck but I told him that I would be more than happy to ring his (soon to be ex) employer and advise him of what great publicity for his firm had unfolded. Not bad, in just a few minutes he had an accident, got nicked and became unemployed...................

Thank God it rarely happens here. You daren't say anything or make any sign at another driver or they WILL report you to the police and you WILL get fined (even without witnesses). Apologies for this being in German:
http://www.bussgeldkatalog-mpu.de/bussgeld...gungen.php Just for some idea, making the "are you blind" (windscreen wipers) gesture at someone can cost you 1000 Euros. Calling someone an "old cow" may set you back 2.500 Euros and giving someone the finger...4.000 Euros. People still get off and angry at the wheel but they are very careful how they express it Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Had one yesterday in the DCPU..
Railway bridge, single lane with the oncoming having the right of way. Having a nose before committing, all I can see is an old dear crossing the road the other side of the bridge, me thinks it's got to be clear, proceeds..... I get to the start my end and clock some whopper pulling around the old dear before she reached safety and he booted it. Alas we met in the middle of the bridge. Now there are times in one's life when all sanity disappears and you think "F**k it" which normally ends up costing a small fortune or your liberty. It was touch and go if I stayed on the gas and shoved the little prat backwards. Deep breath, lit a fag and waited for for him to get off his horn and reverse, cos I ain't moving. He was so irate I was convince he was getting out, I gently moved forward and he yielded, as I reached the end and the road opened up, soft ollies pulled along side shouting about my Mother and me, arms waving purple faced... Quite satisfying.... |

Ok so not last winter but the one previous with all the snow. Single track private access road traversing a steep hillside covered in hard packed snow and ice. I'm coming out of some land with a trailer full of sheep trying really hard to conserve momentum on an slightly uphill section, all good apart from the post man coming towards me in his little corsa van. I have to stop and so does he just. Then all hell breaks loose he starts bouncing about insisting that I back up and let him past which ain't happening as I can't safely be expected to reverse a trailer round an adversely cambered corner downhill on ice with a huge drop on one side and a small cliff on the other. As he is getting more and more irate mother is on the phone to the main sorting office. You can imagine his reaction to being handed a phone with his manager on the other end telling him to let us past and stop being an asshat. Quite a result really. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I try not to get involved in argy bargy on the roads these days, it's not good for my blood pressure and quite simply life is just too short.
One incident that usually causes a chuckle happened to me one clear night many, many years ago. I was driving my 109 Series 3 hardtop along some local country roads stuck behind an eejit who had a pair of stupidly dazzling rear fogs turned on. I gave him one quick flash hoping he would realise and turn them off but no such luck. Soon after at the next junction the guy stopped, got out and came up to my side window asking why I'd flashed him, I calmly explained but out of the blue he suddenly lost the plot and exploded into a stream of choice Anglo Saxon the gist of which was he could do what he wanted when he wanted blah blah blah. I just sat there and let him wind himself up as he struck me as being a bit worse for drink. This guy suddenly reached into the window and tried to grab or land one on me at which point my black lab bitch, who had been sitting quietly in the dark behind the bulkhead, growled and jumped up and after trying to get to his face managed instead to latch onto his arm. For some reason her teeth had the instant effect of bringing the guy back to reality pleading with me to get the dog off him. That bitch was fairly big and chunky, not like a lot of the whippet like field trial dogs these days and was one of the best working dogs I've had and she released him instantly on command after which the guy legged it back to his car and took off. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I think I caused some on Saturday morning, if the owner of the white Japanese sporty car is on here.
Sorry that I did`ent pull away from the lights on the A 607 going into melton, quick enough. I don`t think I got the correct defender wave more of a shaking of a clenched fist ( the kind of things that teenage boys do). I had just got the cars radio to pick up RTE radio 1, it struggles at times especially in town. Only on Irish radio would you get the following, Money matters, religion, Followed by Why I would eat my placenta ???!!!! Well for a few moments I was so shocked and surprised at what was coming from my radio I forgot how to drive. Again sorry to mister angry. On the up side saw 4 defenders they all waved Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires. |

MOG - Your story made me smile! If in a similar situation myself I know I could rely on my dogs too if the worst came to the worst.
This is why the police dogs work so well. |

I had a rather funny thing happen to me last year.
Where I live there are plenty of narrow lanes with high hedges with the occasional two car wide section (and plenty of tourists) I had seen from the high viewpoint of my defender, the roof of a bus coming the other way, so I stopped at the end of a wider section for the bus to pass. The tourist behind me took a dislike to my stopping and after horn blasting and light flashing pulled around me and disappeared around the single track corner, towards the bus. To my delight, a few moments later, he re-appeared reversing back towards the wider section of road that I was stopped at. Upon seeing the pickle this man had got himself into, I gently rolled forwards a few feet, just to re-affirm my position in the wide section of road. Backwards he came, slowly and in not a very straight line but definitely in the general direction of where I was stopped. 'Nope' I thought, 'I'm not letting you get away with that!' Eventually he made it all the way back to in front of where I was stopped but the bus driver stopped and shook his head at the driver, signalling the gap was too narrow. The reverse lights went on and off and on again, backwards he crept but I wasn't going anywhere. The driver of the Toyota soon realised I was staying where I was, then proceeded to do the reverse of shame past me. I felt so smug and I'm pretty sure the bus driver had an idea of what had just happened as I got a thumbs up from him. That happened just after I was over there, crazy crazy video. The guy being chased did sound like he thought he was going to die. Apparently his engine seized about 30 seconds after he pulled into a police station too |
