new tyres
I have just swapped my D3 in for a new 110 and want to put some good tyres on it. Whats best mickey thompson atz, goodrich km2 or at, goodyear mtr? Can any recommend best size, dont want them too big.

What do you intend to do in the 110? Of road, on road, mixed??

265/75/16 is abouth the best size as it doesn't change the characteristics but you can go for 285/75/16 for more clearance under the diffs if you plan a lot of off road work. Andy

Do use it off-road a bit do alot of towing. Was thinking 265 dont fancy loosing too much turning circle. I noticed vince cobley out of lro has mickey thompson but cant find any prices on the net!

I use bfg mt 235/85/16 have always done me fine i get about 50000 miles out them and they go round corners good to Very Happy , just got new pattern ones when i got mt 110 usw and they seem fine i had a set of 265/75/16 on my old 110 and did not get on with them if i went over the road edge on main roads they seemed to pull me in more the 235 dont seem to do this as bad but this is my opinion and every one is different for me 235.

As what CFB has said already, depends what you want to use the vehicle for. I went for 285 KM2, brilliant tyre, but most probably more than i really need on the aggressive side. If I was to buy again I think I would go 265/285 in an AT tyre Thumbs Up just my opinion with the journeys I do.....leg it Arrow Arrow

i am just going through tyre options but was thinking 235.85R16 BFG ATs or General Grabber AT2s.

the smaller dia would suit the use of my truck - a fair bit of towing and nice and slow downhill off road. plus keep the height down for lifting things in and out of it. Plus i believe i would loose some turning circle with 285s or 265.75s on std Boost alloys (assuming they are wide enough to start with) Cheers

Jst, just my opinion, I found AT2 really good on my D3, but Censored me did I go through a couple. The tyre walls are not the best Evil or Very Mad and would consider the BFG AT with a strong side wall, that is what I wish I had put on my 110 this time round:blub: Thumbs Up

I'm sure the tyre guy on here (AJS?) said that the Gen Grab AT2 is great for a Defender and doesn't suffer the same sidewall issues as on D3's. I think this is down to them being low profiles whereas on a Def they're 85s.

I'm wiery of using BFG ATs on a Def due to the definite deterioration in ride I noticed fitting them to a Ford Ranger, I assumed it was due to the extra strong (tri-ply) sidewall. So the normal sidewalled GenGrab AT2 does appeal.

I have BFG A/T's on my 110 and they seem pretty good. I have done quiet a few miles on them and they seem to be holding up ok. I don't do much mud plugging with them but lots of dry tracks, loose stones and a some rocks in the Alps, Pyrenees and southern spain. All in all not a bad tyre even in 285 format. On the 90 however I use 255 BFG muds and they love the mud Mr. Green

I run 265 Khumo KL71's and just done a 600m trip to the Hebrides and they were terrible on the uneven and cambered roads, ocassionally giving me a real scare when they tugged the wheel to follow the camber of the roads and made the steering feel so vague... but they look the part. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

All General Grabber AT2's have baby poo side walls they still are a great tyre thou if you no their limits Thumbs Up

For Me BFG all the way in KM2 / AT Thumbs Up

BFG ATs look more favourable then, for the last Maroc trip sidewall strength was high on the list of priorities.

i am already running BFG MT (255.85s) on another vehicle. the MT is just too agressive for what i need on a daily drive. Cheers

Nobody's mentioned Coopers yet, so I better. I've got a set of STTs, and cannot fault them. There was a time shortly after buying them when I wondered if I had bought too aggressive a set of tyres, but then I followed a BFG AT shod Defender down a grassy field, and the ATs made horrendous work of the soft mud, and turned into virtual slicks, spinning all the way. In contrast my STTs didn't miss a beat. I've never regretted my purchase since. (Having said that, mud differs nationwide, and ATs may handle your local mud without a problem). Peter

I've got a set too, took a bit of getting used to the increased road noise. I have now nearly covered over 3000 miles on these and they appear to be wearing very well!
Having become accustomed to the road 'hum' I now find it quite soothing. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
