BAS remap
Thinking of getting a BAS remap on my 2.4 TDCI. Can I please have some feedback on what to expect in terms of improving the drive - is it more torque? more horse power? smoother engine? a combination of all this? Is it a noticeable difference etc.

This has been discussed quite a few times before.

When I installed a BAS map I found the vehicle noticeably smoother and quieter, livlier, and significantly better performing. It won't (assuming that you get a moderate remap and nothing else) turn it into a racer, but overall the drivability is hugely improved and it puts a smile on your face everytime you drive. Fuel consumption is not significantly altered but any change is in the better direction - I used to reckon on 375 miles to a tank, now it is about 400.

I regularly drive the A35 between Poole and Honiton, and in the eastbound direction there is a sigificant hill to climb on the Axminster bypass. In a laden 110 DC on 285 BFG Muds pre-remap I would be down to 4th gear and 50 mph by the top. After the remap it will climb the hill without struggling in 6th and top it at 55mph, or, if you drop to 5th at the bottom of the hill, will stroll up without slowing at all (much to the chagrin of the Euroboxes who pull out to overtake thinking that you'll slow on the hill).

Overall I wish I'd done it sooner.

Talk to Pete and tell him what you hope to achieve with the remap.

Our main requirement was extra torque for towing heavy trailers. Now on the M1 we can cruise up the long inclines at 55-60mph towing. OK we drop down into fifth.

Made a big improvement for what we want to achieve.

So have a chat with Pete but have a clear realistic idea of what you want to achieve.

Simple - it all feels better and you can get it off again in 5 minutes for servicing, MOT etc. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

In terms of apples and oranges:
Driving back from Italy a few years ago without a remap and with 6 adults and a 7m caravan, a particularly steep hill almost brought us to a standstill in second gear. Even the lorries were honking us from behind.
A few weeks ago with the newest BAS remap and the same load, we were keeping up with the lorries.
I'm hoping the new BAS intercooler and turbo will reduce my embarrassment even more later this Summer Laughing
I believe that's what they call "torque" Thumbs Up Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

I got a BAS remap for our 2010 Puma and it certainly pulls very well in the higher gears which is what I wanted for towing our van. Fuel consumption is unchanged at approx. 10/100ltrs not towing and 13/100 towing.
Overall I'm happy with it.
Now to get something done about a rattly engine. Crying or Very sad

I have had a remap,(two years ago) don’t think about it, do it, the change will put a smile on your face. As all others have said BAS ask you what your requirement is and he does the rest, I’m in Au and it took minutes for the map to take place. I do tow heavy caravan but treat the vehicle with respect, not for the engine but for the transmission’s sake. I think that constant heavy acceleration was used at all take off’s transmission would not take it too well. In Au the pollution laws are not as difficult as UK however have that dam EGR shut off. WMcA Brisbane Australia

Agree with all the above. Couldn't be happier with the increased torque for dragging my overladen camper trailer across the continent. Was also very pleased to shut off the EGR valve which was becoming increasingly noisy whilst driving.
Unbelievable level of service also. Sometimes It is better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission.
