Tweeking of the Injection Pump
Hi guys

As we are about to fit a straight through middle section to the exhaust as there is no rear silencer fitted and the exhaust is pretty new i thought i would ask as i am not sure if its been tweeked or not but if it hasn't whats involved and whats the advantage of doing this to mine a defender 200tdi engine Smile Graham

Had a look today and noticed the tamper proof plug was missing so assume its been tweaked at some point anyway this is what I found.

as soon as I removed the top i could see right away that the diaphragm had been marked with a mark pointing at 3 o clock ( front of engine ) and a mark pointing at 6 o clock ( pointing to o/s/f wheel ) and the top of the smoke screw was level with the lock nut.

so as i wasn't sure i decided to leave it a loan and ask on here if everything i have found says its been tweaked or put back to std what do you think Confused Graham

when I done my 200tdi I didn't touch the top of the pump at all , there was a adjuster screw on the back of the pump by the injector pipes

I adjusted mine because I had big intercooler and had a turbo build to my spec

Have decided to fit the new correct exhaust first and then have a mess with the injection pump later Smile Graham

Sorry for not posting back on this, son had put the clamp that fits round the front pipe to manifold in the wrong position meaning it was clamping wrong if you know what I mean and not gripping the front pipe causing all the exhaust to move slightly but all sorted now Very Happy

going to have a go at tweaking the pump later after making a few adjustments to the exhaust Very Happy Graham

My eccentric cam thing has been adjusted about an 8th of a turn just enough not smoke but enough to liven the off boost and honestly that's all it needed to make it a delight to drive. It effectively smooths the transition to on boost making it feel very linear much like mothers Mercedes. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

When i removed the top i could see that the diaphragm was marked up at 3 oclock and 6 oclock so think its been messed with before but i also noticed as the tamper proof cap was missing aswell that the smoke screw and lock nut were level with each other and notice with pic's of other's where they had been tweaked that there was a bit of thread showing on the smoke screw so i took note of where the smoke screw and lock nut was and backed the smoke screw off 3/4 of a turn and it goes like stink with a very slight trace of smoke on idle and when you rev it it smokes slightly but i am very happy with it Very Happy Graham

I didn't do mine so all I know is that the eccentric cam was moved. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
