Proud owner of a new Defender which I bought without a CD/Radio but is apparently radio ready i.e. aerial fitted
and under dash speakers. Anyone got a idiots guide to fitting a basic radio.....and what's needed? |

Not that I am aware of, for your age Defender it should be grey.
It's location alone will tell you it's purpose, it'll be at the back of the middle of the dash. And yes you'll need to gain access to behind there also. |

This thread may prove useful: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5492.html
It shows the radio connections in the very 1st pic (pale plug for power connections, brown plug for speaker connections). Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Also dump the factory speakers for somethin better, almost anything is better than stock if you get the same size (100mm) its a straight swap.Or go up a size (130mm) and modify slightly with mdf speaker rings. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Thanks for the replies, the photo in the thread was really useful I'll remove the blanking plate and see what it reveals.....when have a few seconds...
The radio is really for "her who burns the dinner", so I'm not too bothered about the speakers, I'm more interested in the drive, I've waited far too long before getting my first Defender and I must say what an experience. I can never see me wanting anything else. Dave.. |

Dave, remember the photo in that link is on an 07 2.4 like mine not a 2.2 that you have.
The plug will be different, I think from memory it's grey and it's a single plug. The above adaptor will give you the idea, which is available from Mud or Nexxia. (Which you will need) The black plugs are the male ISO end (to HU) and the grey end for the male Defender plug that you should have. For you just plug in and that's it, previous to 2012 it was even easier being ISO as standard without needing an adaptor. |

Thanks, as you said a grey plug and coax connector neatly taped behind the dash, I have ordered an adapter from Nexxia again thanks for the info...
Nearly there, does a single DIN standard radio fit directly into the slot vacated by the blanking plate (any plate needed)and I presume all radio connections are now standard as per the adaptor you mentioned. |

Good news.
You'll need a single din cage too, what ever manufacturer you go for I would go for their cage. There is universal but that's what I'd recommend. Also a pair of keys for the manufacturer too. This keeps it physically secure and for security purposes. |

Thinking of fitting an Alpine UTE 72 BT which has all "the boss" requires any comments, apparently comes with cage but don't know about the strapping................

Before you dump the speakers, get an active sub, a small one like this will do :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenwood-KSC-SW11...27da488304 It makes an incredible difference to the sound. I tried changing all the speakers to good replacements but ended up refitting the original ones because they sound warmer. It's not just me - several colleagues have also mentioned how good the sound is Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Can I ask what your technique was for removing the blanking plate over the radio slot on the dash. I keep meaning to fit the radio that is currently sitting on the kitchen shelf.

Could any of you chaps get a photo of this blanking plate at all? I'd be interested to see these if possible as I haven't actually seen one.
