I'm almost 'gingerly' shutting the door now, for fear that the glass will disappear down the void

Not done it myself yet but plan to do so when I get a bit of spare time
My guess is 2 screws on the door handle and the door card just pulls off with the fir tree type fixings that will no doubt break? Glad luck |

It's a push fit, there are two pins with a centre piece that pop out first.
Ideally you want a trim removal tool like: |

The above photo is on a Peugeot but that's the style trim tool you really want.
Also need to protect the paint behind from the tool too. Such a tool on E bay is only about £3 all in believe it or not. The fixings are on the extremities and you work you way around popping out one at a time. **Edit, apologies for the double post, accidentally posted in two separate posts. I actually did this today, there are 2 screw under the door handle, 1 screw in the door opening handle, the plastic around the lock just pops out then you are left with 2 fir tree plugs one in the top right, the other the bottom left. At this point the for card can be levered away releasing 11 hidden fir tree plugs. If you have a manual winder, there is a circlip around the base, lever the door card away and use long nose pliers or a thin screwdriver to pop the cir clip off

Here's the link to a tool that'd do the job: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-VAN-DOOR-UPH...589c74ae0f
Cheap but it's all you need. |

Wow.. love this place
cheers guys, I have a lever tool already and have 'popped' the rear door card a couple of times in the past. So after removing the door handle (i've got electric winders) ... Is it a task of locating the same type of fir-tree plugs. Is there a plastic film or similar to breach? |

Need to do this with a little care as I have seen the door card fittings get damaged if the tool is not used in the right place but don't let me put you off. It will be worth doing a search on here for more info as recently someone put up the pages of the manual that showed where all the fittings were.

much the same as Steve but I use Bojo tools, this negates the need to put packing in as they are made of plastic, they come in sets or single. they are great for prying apart the dash, removing popers etc
the ones i use the most are the straight point and the angled fork. i use mine every day and for the money they are a great addon to any tool kit. maybe cheaper on fleEbay http://www.bojotoolstore.co.uk/ |

Once you've done it once it's a piece of P with little, if any technicality about it. Sometimes the locking button surround can be a bit sticky and not shift easily. Take care not to damage the plastic membrane puttied to the inside of the door, if you rip it then seal with some decent gaffer or duct tape. Check the security of all the bolts, nuts, plastic fittings and clips and take the opportunity to get some anti corrosion wax of your choice inside the door too. If you remove the card often then the plastic clips will eventually become tired and loose so it's useful to have a few spares in hand just in case. Steve.

BTW whatever happened to 'practical' Land Rover types who can make do and mend? If you don't have the special tool and you need, or want, to get the job done now then it's easy enough to either make one out of an old wide blade screwdriver or similar. With care you can even use a suitable wide screwdriver or chisel as is without grinding a fork in it. A bit of plastic [old credit card or bit cut from a plastic ice cream or margarine tub] inserted between the door and card when you are levering will protect the paintwork. Steve.

I bought the tool just because it cost sod all, if it'd been £10 + I'd have made do with something else.
I found that the biggest thing to be careful of is the paint. And yes, the door pin section can be a pain but with care it's no problem. I carefully put a flat blade screwdriver under the bottom lip of it and gently prised it up. Again, taking care not I damage the plastic. Once you've one it once you can do it in no time perfectly. With it off sound proofing the doors might be useful to fit at the same time. |
