i have had a gradual droning noise lately that is getting worse. it is rev/load dependent. was convinced it was drivetrain related, had my props off greasing everything etc. now over the last few days it has got worse. this is good though as it makes it easier to work out what it is ( sometimes) i got to thinking it actually sounds like it may be exhaust related. low and behold the joint between the turbo and the downpipe is blowing!! My 109 thread

right all 3 nuts on the downpipe to turbo needed tightening. still got the droning though. Sad im hoping ive also cured a rattling pinking sound at revs, as the washers would be rattling around with the nuts not being tight.
maybe its my mid box baffles, its developed from a drone to a boom and can also here it when stationary and revving!
i hate chasing noises! it can get expensive! My 109 thread

New bits to put on!! Not glamorous but essential!
This is the problem with old cars, all your cash seems to go on boring essential repairs rather than fun mods!!!

passed MOT today!!
8 advisories!!!!
only one is a bit of a worry!
1. play in pitman arm ball joint (worst job to sort but cheap!)
2. NS rear pads thin
3. OS rear pad thin
4. OS ARB bush slight play
5. engine cover fitted! (none issue)
6. rear passenger seats missing !!! (none issue)
7. hub seals weeping
8. oil leak!!! (obviously its a defender)
so all super quick and easy fixes aprt from drop arm ball joint!
not bad for 19 years old!! My 109 thread

Drop arm is really simple. I did mine on the drive last year was dead simple.

Does yours have the drop out pin type or is it a split off from the bottom of the Steering Box job?

Glad to see it passed for another year though Very Happy

If you decide to replace the ball joint insitu invest in the Br*tpart tool . I did ours last time and it makes it easy, typically though it ran out of thread pushing the old upper cup out but a socket over the bolt gave it enough Thumbs Up
