2.2 TDCI recall
Hi

Just had contact from Taunton LR about a recall on my Defender - apparently it is to do with replacing an air pipe from the intercooler (might have that wrong) due to problems with current design failing, leading to power loss.

All booked in for FOC change in a couple of weeks. Anyone else been contacted about this?

on your third pipe , when it went in for the first one they must have seen what caused it , could they not think to themselves this is going to happen again and do something about it , even put a cable tie round it ,bit of old pipe put round outside anything really there must be a hundred ways to fix or help it to not happen again

I just would never give a customers car back knowing it would ever happen again or least say I have tried to help to stop it

Which pipe is causing the trouble? Is this something we can prevent by cable tieing the pipe ourselves? 110 Hardtop

Mine was in today and they told me about this issue being flagged up for checking as I handed it over.

Got a nice FL2 SD4 for the day: much more enjoyable than I thought. Smile

Phoned this afternoon to check on completion to be told that they didn't have the parts for the lights Question Exclamation so the car won't be ready until tomorrow lunchtime.

Can you ask for the replacement part number? Is it the last elbow into the engine?

I don't think there is a "corrected" hose as the moment. I'm on my 3rd hose in a year. Mine is a '13' reg.

It went in for is first service last month and had another hose fitted. The "correction" appears to be that they now fit a zip tie to hold the hose in place Shocked

Maybe a set of silicon hosed would fix this as the problem seems to occur when the current hose expands under pressure and heat.

The dealer mentioned that ironically silicon hoses would fix the issue but invalidate the warranty!

Well done Land Rover.

Think that is exactly a subject to bring to the attention of Mike of Land Rover Cutomer Relations to solve. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

So here is the "corrected" hose. I just went and took some photos of the 'post recall' work. Check out my new Land Rover genuine ZIP TIE Evil or Very Mad

Not really worth the 50 mile round trip. If i were you i wouldn't bother just throw some gaffer tape at it and save yourself the diesel.

If the hose is so unsuitable that it has to be zip tied out of harms way you would think Land Rover would offer a non-expanding hose as a fix not just bodge it.

I fully expect to consume at least 3 hoses a year with 12,000 miles annual mileage. Genius.

Me too.

just have my service done yesterday on my 2.2 puma fenda

I was told there will be an upgrade of the turbo hose in the near future ( on top of the previous fix which invloves additional bracket on the alternator and a safty strip)

will see how it goes

theoretically, this will be the third version of turbo hose fix...

Cheers
Martin

Mine is also due.

I have been told there is a modified bracket (more than a cable tie). I don't know if every vehicle gets this though.

If any of you do have the modified bracket solution I would be most grateful if you could post some photos. I would like to find out from my dealer why I had a zip tie fix and others have a 'proper' solution.

Thanks.

Apparently mine was done this week. I was told it's no longer a cable tie, but a new bracket that fixes, at one end, to the alternator. Presumably it's fixed to the pipe at the other.
